How does a teen girl gain weight?

Let me just be clear thati am NOT anorexic or bulimic. Im 17, 5 foot 6 and 108 pounds. I know im underweight because last time i weighed myself was when i was likr 15 and i was 111 pounds. I dont know how i lost weight. I eat A LOT and i do mild excersize like walking to and from school (about 2 miles total) and some ab excersizes. I dont know how to gain weight. I am healthy, i eat 3 meals a day and a couple healthy snacks and have dessert everynight.

Any tips? What to eat? What to do? Has this ever happened to you?

Desperate to Lose Weight Quickly? Not For Long

You need to do weight-lifting, give your body a reason to hold more weight. Not walking, which just burns away more calories, and totally forget abs until you''ve been a bodybuilder for 2 years, then you might have a chance of understanding those muscles and how to work them. Also look at what you are eating, are they quality calories or just empty junk ? The dessert for night, that''s not so good, what happens is your blood sugar spikes after it''s entered your blood stream, then you go to sleep and the sugar levels start falling, your brain takes this as a sign that you might be starving to death and figures it should pull you out of deep sleep, or even sleep completely because you might just want to know and do something about it. SO have a protein snack at night, rotating leftovers from the night before works well, just a little something like 4 oz of chicken, steak, etc. Warmed, and your blood sugars will stay even and you can get a solid night sleep. Bodybuilding may seem drastic but it''s not, once you fit it into your life, it will become second nature. 5 days a week, building up to 45 mins a day. Divide your muscles/muscle groups over a 5 day week, so each gets worked once directly. Don''t worry that you''ll look manly, that''s just women who use steroids, you''ll only gain a few pounds of muscle a year, but it will give your body a reason to hold on to more fluids and calories. It will be a great thing in your life, and even help you with child birth on many levels, so join a gym, and keep it enjoyable ( that''s the key to success). I only recommend one supplement, for people who need it, because I know it works. And that''s Nutiva''s Organic Hemp Protein, the regular version, not the chocolate it''s nasty, you can add your own chocolate powder or just add the protein powder to your foods. It doesn''t have much of a taste, but it''s a little gritty, but it''s an awesome value for the body and brain and will help you put on weight quicker. Just one a day, no need to over-do it. It''s available online.

  • It''s normal for your weight to fluctuate especially at this stage of development. I wouldn''t try to gain weight if I were you, you''ll just start yo-yo dieting. However if you do have a higher than average metabolic rate consult a doctor.

It seems all diets say eat less. I am told I need to eat more to lose weight!?

I dont understand how eating more helps? Can anyone help me understand without being mean about it,?

Fastest and Natural Way to Lose Weight

If you eat too low of a calorie intake for too long your metabolism slows and you no longer lose weight eating that low. You have to eat more to get your BMR (metabolism) sped up. It happened to me. I ate around 1000 cals for years and never lost weight. When I upped my calories to 1400 cals I began losing. Then I stopped losing at that amount and dropped to 1200 cals. That worked for about 6 weeks and I stopped losing again. I upped my calories back up 1400 and started calorie cycling and lost another 5 lbs in 2 weeks.

You basically have to confuse your metabolism every once in awhile.

  • In order to lose weight, one must reduce caloric intake. This may include cutting back on eating, but also burning calories through exercise.
  • if your starving your self your body hangs on to fat to burn or anything you might have. SO this is true. If you eat a balance diet 3 times a day you will loose weight. The brain will tell you ok, let go of some of that stored fat. So the weight starts to fall. Good luck
  • Eating more healthy foods help speed up your metabolism, when your metabolism speeds up it helps burn fat faster. Eating less causes loss of muscle and in conclusion causes flabbiness and skin to look loose.
  • if you starve your self your body goes in to starvation mode were it holds on to the fat it has in order to survive you will eventually lose weight but if you want to lose weight quicker and healthier you should eat a good diet because if eat your body will let go of the fat quicker.

NOTHING seems to work in helping me lose weight...I''m so discouraged, and hungry. What do I do?

I''ve tried SO MANY different things to lose weight. All kinds of diet plans, workout plans, cardio exercises, interval training, strength training, bikram yoga...everything. Nothing seems to work.

I''ve done all my homework on weight loss. I know about the whole BMR, calories in vs calories mechanism, everything. I give all my friends advice for weight loss because they know I''m so knowledgeable about it by now. I''ve been trying hard to lose weight since October and nothing has worked.

It breaks my heart. I''ve never been this way, I feel like it''s not me. I''m not overweight, but hardly. I''m 17 years old, 5''3'' tall and I''m just over 57kg or 126lbs. I gained almost 9 kilos (20lbs) over a six-month period despite trying hard to lose weight (eating at a caloric deficit and exercising). In fact, it''s odd because I gave myself a break recently, and my weight has stabilized.

I''m not gaining anymore but I just can''t lose weight. I''ve NEVER been like this. My entire life, I always ate as I pleased and was always quite thin. My maximum weight before this, ever, was 52kg (115lbs), and that was when I went to Hawaii for winter break and spent two weeks stuffing my face with high-calorie foods and laying in the sun all day.

I''m so discouraged. I don''t know what to do anymore. All of my friends lose weight so effortlessly, and I''ve been working my butt off and depriving myself of food (god I love food) and it hasn''t helped at all. It''s been four days now since I''ve gotten so upset, I''ve been starving myself. I haven''t eaten a single solid food this whole time. All I have is water and occasionally soup. I can''t even stand to look at myself in the mirror, or be seen in all my short shorts and dresses that I always loved to wear before. I can''t stand getting my picture taken.

This has made me depressed, and I hate it. And I feel like it''s getting worse everyday.

What do I do? :(
Thanks for your answers. And, there''s a couple of things I know aren''t the problem.

1) Thyroid and hormonal imbalances. I got checked for those, and everything''s normal.
2) Eating too little - Until now at least, I was not by any means eating little enough to put my body into starvation mode. I never ate below 1300 or 1400 calories in any day.
3) Things like polycystic ovarian syndrome or diabetes/high blood sugar...I got checked for those too.

sounds more emotional issue here than weight. The more you ''feel'' you are overweight the more it sticks. Quite frankly you aren''t really overweight..you dont'' like the way you look perhaps and maybe you could be more ''fit''. Time to start liking yourself again and stop beating yourself up. Hormones and even your thyroid could be some of the issue here...so maybe a basic blood test at your doctors. In the meantime - I''d concentrate on eating healthy...and getting ''fit''. Muscle is much more sexy than being flabby...which I''m sure you are not...but still - having curves from muscle is attractive while still having a little meat on your bones. Time to adjust to where you are at the moment instead of complaining about it all the time. Try and retrain your thinking process to ''i want to be and look healthy'' instead of worrying so much about the weight. How about just focusing on some general things in your life that you enjoy or like instead of what you don''t? Also too little calorie intake can cause the body to go into starvation mode, and will try to hold on to weight...so again, trying healthier foods while still eating enough will help in long run.

  • You can not change your body type.
Superman will never be as thin as Spider-Man no matter how he diets, and Spidey can never bulk up to Superman''s level.

But you can be the best of your body type.

When you say you are hungry, you have to understand there are two types of hunger.
People fail by using the wrong method to sate their hunger.

Are you hungry for anything...or hungry for ONE specific item?

If you just need to eat something: eat a salad...LOTSA salad.
    It will fill you up

but if you are dying for a chocolate bar....eat a salad
    FOLLOWED by a fun-sized bar.

Chocolate will be the last thing you taste,,,,and you''re full

Hope this helped...wish I could have cut and pasted it (this was a lot of typing)
  • You won''t want to agree with me, but you are eating too much milk, cheese and meat. Non-fat milk and grilled chicken are things that people think are healthy but are super unhealthy.

You must eats loads of fresh fruits and veggies, and get lots of sleep, and excercise first thing in the morning.

Nothing is wrong with your body, your diet just has too much meat, milke and cheese, and not enough fresh fruits and vegetables.

how can i stop my eating addiction?

i am 13 and a little chubby. i used to b skinny like my little sister but last year whenever i was home alone i would eat a ton of junk and sneak it up to my room so my parents didn''t know. i try to stop pigging out but i can''t. it only happens when i can get to my kitchen alone. i don''t want to tell anyone especially my parents because it is embarrassing. i rlly want to look good in a bikini this summer so i need help! i made up my own diet and exersises that im trying to do but i still keep sneaking the food.

Omg same here! I love food but I hate it at the same time! I''ll always sneak food in my bedroom and eat it so nobody thinks I''m a fat slob or something. All you need is a little motivation... it sounds like you have EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified), look it up. Maybe we could work together to lose weight? Could you email me or something? :/ I''m 5''0 tall(maybe 5''1 almost) and I weigh around 109... We could make it a contest to see who could get to their goal weight first or something. (: Hope I helped. Also, whenever you want to grab that cookie, even though it looks good infront of you, it will not look good in your stomach! lol.

  • I need point''s so just dont gey excited cuz some body answerd you .. bypass haha
  • Snack at noon 12:00. A carrot, or an apple, or an orange, or a celery. Limit yourself to 0 to 2 snacks a day.
  • Limit yourself. Don''t hide sweets in your room anymore, and when it does come to pigging out, remember what you want to look like this summer!! Have will power, that''s a very important thing when it comes to this. Would you rather have that sweet now so you can be temporarily happy or have a body you can be proud of all summer?
  • One reason people can''t stop eating is that the cells of the body remain hungry if they don''t get proper nutrition. When you start eating non-processed and organic foods, the foods you do eat will be packed with nutrition and your cells will feel hungry faster. Until they feel they have gotten their nutrition, you will always be hungry.

Also - most peoples'' bodies are not very mobile. Even if they work out, their is little flexibility in the many individual little muscles throughout the body. The intercellular fluid which brings the nutrition to the body and removes waste doesn''t move, so the body is really like a cesspool of waste.

Certain exercises promote the movement of intercellular fluid such as Pilates, Yoga and especially the Zookinesis exercises. These exercises also tone your muscles.

If you eat properly and do the proper exercises, your body will not be as hungry and will start looking great!

How does a skinny guy gain weight and muscle mass?

So i just turned 20 on Christmas. im 5'11'' and have weighed 130 lbs since i was 13. i have a super fast metabolism and cannot for the life of me seem to gain ANY weight. I'm very self concious and cant stand myself everytime i look in the mirror. my overall goal is to get to 180-190 lbs, but if i could reach 160 i know i would feel much better about myself.
Is there anyone out there who knows how someone in my situation can put on a good amount of weight? preferably in a short amount of time...
NOTE: This IS NOT the same as an average build or obese person trying to build muscle. i DO workout, i DO eat well, and i also spend 8 hours a day doing heavy lifting at work. i can sit around all day and eat or workout all day and eat. my metabolism WILL NOT let me gain 1 lb.

Lose Weight As You Get Older - Ezine Articles

It seems that your main problem is that you are not eating enough. You could be eating well but simply not enough since you are lifting heavy at work for such prolonged periods of time. You need to fuel that with a lot of calories if not you will either stall or worse, lose weight in the process. If you are looking to gain weight, you will also need to spend a bit of time seeing if 8 hours of sleep is sufficient for you. When I was in the army, even 8 hours of sleep wasn't enough due to the highly intensive lifestyle I led then. Here are my suggestions on how to get your workout right, your diet to have enough calories to help you gain weight as well as how to sleep well.

In terms of diet, it is important to consider eating a high calorie diet filled with natural food. The foods you should eat more of are bread, pasta, potatoes, biscuits and rice. This will help give you energy to work on the pitch as well as give you the ability to gain weight by making your calorie intake higher than your output. You can also try adding milk into your diet to help you get the protein you need to help you to repair muscles which is the healthy way to gain and maintain weight. I would recommend starting out by drinking 500ml of milk 3 times each day if you are not lactose intolerant. Weigh yourself once every week and see if your weight increase, if not simply drink a 100ml more of milk each time. Once you spot a gain of 1-2 pounds, then it is time to hit the workout room and get proper rest.

The important thing to prime yourself up to gain muscle mass as weight is to sleep well. If you do not rest enough, your muscles and immune system will take a hit and make gaining weight even harder. Even though this may seem simple, it took me a while to get the hang of it and to apply it on a consistent basis. One test I would like you to try is to sleep and wake up by yourself on a day where you have no activities plan ahead. Take note of how many hours you need to sleep and keep repeating that daily in order to ensure that you gain the weight you need as well as keep your immune system strong so that you will not fall sick which will cause you to lose weight.

The last thing is to spot what workout fits you best. So far, I have found the workout at http://gohforth.com extremely good in terms of helping me and my clients to gain weight. I was able to consistently put on a pound a week without suffering much downtime. There were also months I can gain close to 5 pounds which is an extremely big motivation to spur me on to train, sleep and eat properly. Perhaps you could give it a try and see if it changed your life like it did for me.

  • Subscribe to Men's Health Mag. This will give you work out tips and how to put on muscle healthily. Mainly do weight lifting/body weight exercises and drink/eat high protein after doing so. If you feel sore the next day, good! That means your doing something right, but if it is SEVERE then stop and seek a doctor.
  • Ur so lucky! Im 123 and 5'7, and i cannot eat ever!

Grrr. Go to a vitamin store, like GMC, or Vitamin World, and ask for help. Dont go to wal mart, or be cheap about it! Buy protien shakes, and vitamins that build muscle. Get a gym membership, and use it! Along with the vitamins, working out will quickly gain MUSCLE.
  • Start weight lifting and drinking that muscle powder stuff they sell in stores next to the granola bars. Make sure you increase the weight you lift gradually and try not to eat a ton of junk food.
  • you need to eat 20x your body weight from calories
1 gram of protein each pound u weigh

an lift weights.. heavy weights, do your deadlifts, benchpresses, an squats
an take creatine before u workout
    an take whey protein after
  • Your a hard gainer like me, which means you will need to eat more calories than most. For me to pit on ANY muscle I HAVE to eat atleast 3,000 calories a day, sounds like your in the same boat which means you have to work twice as hard as guys who's genetics are better for muscle building. Not only hard work but eating right, like I said 3,000 calories is what I have to eat, no matter what. And they have to be good calories, not just junk! If you want more help email me at: ryancrow813@gmail.com also you'll have to commit to a good workout program!! Fastest Way to Lose Weight

Recommanded Answer:
Uh you're like perfect, but if you need to lose weight restrict calories for a short time (don't stop eating just lower your calorie intake) , eat smaller meals but eat 4-5 small meals, spread them out. and just move a lot more, do whatever brisk or rigorous work you can.

  • Eat salad
  • You are slightly underweight...110 pounds would be definitely underweight.
If you NEED to be that weight, maybe its time to assess how you feel about yourself as you are heading into an eating disorder.

Question about VO2 max and losing weight?

I would like to get my VO2 up because it is only at 29 (I know that is low). So I planned on starting to run on the treadmill but I found out I don't lose as many calories when I run instead of briskly walk (We use polar watches that tell you your heart rate/calories burned since you put in personal data). It is normal to not burn as many running as walking, right? But I also want to lose weight and I am no good at this. I'm 19, a female, and I have asthma. For a class we have to do 4 workouts a week. How can I get my VO2 up AND burn lots of calories? I also don't really have friends to play sports or do workout videos with or anything.
I like situps but can't stand pushups. I hurt myself in highschool when I was forced to do them. How would they make you lose that many calories though?
I'm also not going to buy a book/program off the computer...

Foods to Lose Weight Healthily

Recommanded Answer:
Ah, this is way easier than you think....

High intensity interval training (HIIT).

Do one minute or 30 second sprints at 80% of Training heart rate (high cardio level or low peak on a tread mill...around 7 MPH). Drop the speed down to 3.5 MPH for 30 secs to 1 minute to let your heart rate drop. (If you have to, go to 2 MPH to get heart rate down to 50-60%). Then back up to 70-80% for another interval. Try doing that for 15 minutes to start; as you improve, you can get up to 30 minutes.

If you don't have a treadmill you can use, you can do the same on a track. Shoot for 1.5 miles total, which is 6 laps on a 1/4 mile track. Sprint the length, jog the curve, sprint the length, jog the curve...etc. Walk if you have to, but only one curve.

I've done this for 2 times a week for 4 weeks and have increased my VO2 max twice and increased my speed from 6 MPH to 7, and increased my intervals from 30 secs to 1 minutes. (Dropped 12 pounds in the 3 weeks, but that's not the point) And I'm an old chick. here's an article on it. http://www.shape.com/fitness/workouts/8-benefits-high-intensity-interval-training-hiit

  • I don't know what VO2 is, but I have a couple tips on losing weight.

    • If you have a smartphone, try setting an alarm on it to do 20 push-ups hour. If you do this often, before you know it, you'll be healthy and fit!

    • If you don't own a smartphone, try to remember.

    • If you have an Xbox with kinect, try to buy an exercise game.

    • During commercials when watching TV do 7 push-ups every other commercial. Increase the number if you think you are able to.

    • If you actually want to get abs, do sit-ups. It's a great workout to get abs.

    • Laughing. Laughing is a great way to burn off those calories with simply flexing your stomach. (Flexing your stomach happens when you're laughing)

    • Swimming. It's another great way to burn those calories. You can also tread water whe in the water.

You'll do great! I know you can!

Is it possible I'll loose weight if I quit smoking weed?

I'm just curious if it's possible I might lose weight if I stop smoking. I love smoking, so this is why I don't want to quit if there is no benefit out of it. I smoke usually 2 or 3 times a day. I usually eat a lot when I get home from my friends' house at like 10 at night because of the munchies. When I go a day without smoking I hardly eat anything that day. Any experiences with this?

Thank you! :)

How do I lose my weight that I gained after I quit swim?

I used to swim competitively for about 5 years, but I recently had to quit in order to get a job. My job takes up almost all of my free time, and I gained a little weight from quitting. I don't have time to go to the gym, and I barely eat anything anymore, but I'm still pudgy and I don't know why. How can I get skinny (preferably fast) without having to go to the gym, or cut out any more food from my intake?

How Thai Food Can Help You Lose Weight

Recommanded Answer:
Keep in mind that after 5 years of swimming competitively, your body is used to having constantant muscle strain and build up.
Assuming that you haven't had the time to work out as often as you had, it really makes since that your muscle deffination would begin to sag and loosen.
Don't worry about it! Just work out when you get the chance. And DON'T starve yourself. Your body needs a certain amount of food to survive, and if you aren't eating very much, your body isn't getting the essential vitamins and nutrients it needs to stay fit. You are probobly a little low on potasium, which keeps your skin and muscles tight. Bananas and coconuts are very high on potasium, so I would reccomend maybe buying coconut water! It is tasty and seems to kill sweet cravings for me, and is very high in potasium!

Good luck! I hope I helped. :)

  • If you cut food out of your diet your body will hang on to all the calories it consumes because it doesn't know when it will be able to replenish any lost calories. Unless you work 20 hours a day every day I can't fathom you not having time to spare for a gym routine, it only takes 45 minutes a day. As for a slim fast cure all one doesn't exist unfortunately, only time and dedication.

How can I increase my pushups and situps?

I'm planning on enlisting in the army infantry (11b) by this time next year, and I would like to do the best I possibly can on the PT Test, I'm setting my sights on a perfect score.

I'm currently 5'6" and 265lbs (Yes I know I have to lose the weight first, I've lost 10 lbs in the past few weeks, and my goal is to be at 150-155 by the time I actually enlist.)

I've been doing pushups every day and I found a new pushup plan that is as follows:

Diamond Pushups to failure.
Regular Pushups to failure.
Wide Grip Pushups to failure.

30 seconds in between each type of pushup, and 3-4 sets a day.

Is there any other ways to maximize results?

My first set was...

Diamond = 18
Regular = 12
Wide Grip = 15

And it's went down from there.

Also, whats a sit-up plan thats similar?

The run is something I'm not awfully worried about, I've always been a decent runner and my current workout is 15 minutes of jogging/walking on a treadmill and I do 1.5 miles in that time frame, so by the time I lose the weight I should be well within range.
While doing regular pushups (before I did this plan) I can do 25-30, maybe a little more if I pushed myself.
I've already seen HUUUUGE improvement in the past month, I'm just trying to get even more.

When I started a little over a month ago I was 270 and I could hardly do 5, maybe 10 and my arms were so warn out I couldnt do multiple sets. Now I'm doing multiple sets of 15+ within a 5 minute time period.

Top Five Tips to Lose Weight

Recommanded Answer:
Stop doing them every day. Give your body time to recover and incorporate changes due to the stimuli.

There is no reason to mess around with various types of push ups, you only need basic push ups to get better. Do as many as you can without stopping, rest 2 minutes, repeat. Do 3 sets of this every other day, and write down how many you manage to do for every set. Always try to keep perfect form, even as you fatigue. Do this, and you'll see improvement over time.

Also, as you lose weight the push ups will get easier.

How long should I do the juice fast for?

I want to do the juice fast, partly to lose weight, but mainly to regain my energy. How long should I do it for?! I'm 15 if that helps!

Lose Weight As You Get Older - Ezine Articles

Recommanded Answer:
For a beginner it's best to do a short juice fast. Perhaps 1-5 days to begin with. The longer the fast the more effective it will be but you don't want to go too long at first. Make sure you understand juice fasting and don't attempt to juice fast without consulting with your doctor first. Evenutally you may want to juice for a longer time. Because you are quite young you shouldn't have to juice fast for a long time to feel the benefit. after trying 1-5 days you can move on to 7-14 days provided everything goes okay the first time.

  • Some people do it for 3 days, or a week or two. Extremists do it for 30-40 days.
