If I was riding a cart down a hill would it go faster if weight was in the back or the front?

My friend has made a cart and wants to ride it down a hill but he doesn''t know if it would be faster if he put weight in the back or front.

I ride pretty fast and it''s up hill. Will I lose any weight?

  • the front. Think about it- if it is in the back, that would make the back ride lower than the front, creating drag from the air. Also, it would slide forward. Put it in the front, and it would bring the front end down, thus reducing drag. it would go faster. Also less likely to hit you as it slides forward.
  • No matter how much weight (even one ton) you
add to your cart it won''t go any faster.
Neglecting air resistance, all objects of any weight fall
    at the same rate.
This is Isaac Newton''s "Second Law".

If this doesn''t make sense, see the source below.
If this is hard to believe or understand, that''s why
Newton was acclaimed as a genius when he figured it out.
  • It doesn''t make any difference to the speed.

But it will probably be more stable if the weight is in the middle.
  • Ride at your own pace you can''t expect to keep up with you friends that have been riding for a while.
