Why is it that I lose and gain weight easily?

I'm 21 years old. My birthday's on January 30th. I play a lot of basketball. I'm 6'4" and weigh 182lbs. I haven't been working out like I use to. When I work out, I usually do cardio. I barely do weight lifting (and when I do weight lifting, It's usually push-ups and squats with my dumb bells. I don't bench press). Now that I haven't been working out. I'd eat a lot on purpose to avoid being thin, but I'd eat, and I'd gain weight only in my stomach area, my stomach would be so full and round. I'd get on the scale and It'll say 197lbs...Then after seeing 197lbs, I'd be full for a while, so I wouldn't eat anything. Then in two days, I'd digest and my stomach would go back to being flat, small, and very hollow to the point you can see my rib cage. Next, I'll go check the scale and It'll say 185lbs - 179lbs.WHY CAN'T I STAY AT 197LBS? I always go back down to 185lbs - 179lbs..HELP!

is there any military colleges with all branches?

I'm still kinda deciding on whether to join the air force after high school or after college. But the only way I'll go to college is if I'm on a ROTC scholarship. And the only thing holding me back from going in after high school is my weight. I need to gain about 20 pounds, but I struggle with gaining weight. I just need to know if there is a military college with all branches or if there is an all air force college (I already know about the air force academy) I need to know if there are any other colleges that involve the air force or if they're any college's with the best Air force ROTC? Please help. I'm confused on what decision to make

How to Lose Weight With Cayenne Pepper

Recommended Answer:

It can help and that's all.The key to fat loss is not exercise, it's diet.Any exercise will burn calories but no exercise will burn fat unless your diet allows it. You can burn fat in your sleep or you can run all day and never burn any fat. It all depends on your diet. Fat loss is determined by calorie control, not by exercise. Good exercises for burning calories are speed walking, biking, swimming, dancing, etc. and ANY other physical activity which makes you move a lot of weight for a long time. But NO exercise is good for burning fat if you eat too many calories because you can always eat more calories than you can burn but you can't always burn as many as you take in.Too many people waste energy and time because they do not understand this one simple point. The result is too often giving up in frustration, abandoning gym memberships they continue to pay for, and many other unnecessary problems not the least of which is a lack of success. An average person must walk about five miles every day for a week to burn the calories equivalent to a pound of body fat. So, unless you think walking about five miles a day (or doing an equivalent amount of exercise) with no guarantee of fat loss makes sense, focus your fat loss program on diet.Diet for fat loss. Exercise for fitness. To find out how the best minds in nutrition in the world (at the US NIH) have recommended for decades we lose fat, read my answer about how to lose fat --> http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=As615QJM4X_3ID9_05qmmlXty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20111028185603AAVcP4D There is nothing special about Zumba. You can burn as many calories or more just walking or swimming. Burning calories is not about sweating or huffing and puffing. It's about moving a lot of weight over a long distance. So, do what you enjoy because, if you enjoy it, you'll do it longer and/or more often.Good luck and good health!!♠PS: Here are some good websites you may find useful.• BEST SEARCH ENGINE http://www.usa.gov• A MUST FOR DIETERS http://www.freedieting.com/• BEST DIET TOOL ON THE WEB http://www.myfitnesspal.com/• BEST FOODS FOR YOU http://www.choosemyplate.gov/index.html• NUTRITION DOT GOV http://www.nal.usda.gov/food-and-nutrition

Is taking medication for anxiety always a bad thing?

People talk about these drugs (SSRIs) like they are just the worst thing ever and doctors give them out like candy....but what about if you really need them? I have been on Zoloft 50 mg for 3-4 years for anxiety and it has helped soooo much! But after a recent blood test where it may be affecting my thyroid, I decided to go down to 25 mg. After being on 25 mg for 3 weeks, I am a huge bundle of nerves! I constantly feel nauseous (it's not withdrawals, I already had those the first week) and I just feel VERY VERY anxious. I haven't been eating the same as usual and I've lost 10 pounds. When I do eat, it takes me a while cause I'm so panicky and nervous. I had a major panic attack earlier and as soon as I took my medicine (maybe 30 mins after) I was fine and so much more relaxed. I know natural is better but some people do need medication for certain things...so is it really a bad thing? I know I have the thyroid issue to deal with but besides that...is the medication a bad thing if it's helping me and I act terrible on the 25 mg? I mean, I'm in college and I'm getting ready to move into an apartment for the first time. Kinda need the medicine.

How to Lose Weight Fast With No Pills or Equipment

Recommended Answer:

As a former medicine user of depressant anxiety pills I would advise you to keep taking it as you are making a new life change moving into your apartment. Once your moved in and comfortable start weaning off your medication .( I know it'll be hard) my doctor took me off my celexa after taking it 6 months. I had an attack after getting off it but, I became more weary of my body signs, I can tell when I'm nervous and what to do. For example , I would get most nervous when I'm laying down in bed or even thinking about still(even writing this) I would turn on some beach sounds and imagine myself in that setting like the taste, sound , and feel of the beach calmed me down. When I'm in a public space and I get nervous I say to myself "come on man what am I over reacting about" then I take a deep breath and try to forget about it. Your young as well and I know you can make these changes. Good luck. I hope this helps .

  • Zoloft is a safe drug to be on so don't worry about that. However it may be affecting your appetite in a negative. It is not uncommon for Zoloft to affect someone's appetite. Take to your doctor.
  • google Zoloft dose range for guidance and return to 50
  • I don't think that the zoloft is affecting your thyroid.. unless its back to normal again.I would suggest trying something else if it affects your thyroid. And no, ssris aren't bad if you really need them like myself (i take 80mg of prozac for OCD). Its just that we don't know what ssris will do to us but snris are the meds that most people have trouble with because they're hard to get off of.You should try a benzo. Those aren't necessarily bad either. It's just that some people abuse them or get hooked on them so be careful.

Getting slim/abs (15 year old boy)?

I'm not fat but I do have a little fat on my stomach/belly and small moobs. I wanna slim down for summer and hopefully get abs or just a flat stomach. I've stared to diet by replacing fizzy drinks with water and juice and cutting down on sugary foods. This is the exercise I'm doing now. (50 sit-ups , 15 mins of running on the spot , 100 star jumps , 10 sit-ups , 100 more star jumps) (Doing all of that usually takes about 30 mins) If I do this exercise Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and Friday will I start to slim down and hopefully start to develop abs?

How to Lose Weight With the Master Cleanse

Recommended Answer:

Yes, but it'll be slow. Try cutting down on the sugar a little more, meaning no juice, just water. If I were teaching you we would be doing this my way. You would be doing intermittent fasting. This meaning not eating the whole day except for ONE 4 hour period. It can be any time of the day you want. Examples: 6:00 - 10:00, 1:00 - 5:00 etc. Your stomach will be empty and your body will naturally burn fat. Want it even faster? Try working out right before the 4-hour eating period. That way you're working cardio on an empty stomach. This would cause you to reach your goal in no more than 2 weeks. NOTE: You may drink water at any time of the day. During the fasting period do not even consume a bite of food, it'll throw the fasting period off.

10 Reasons to Lose Weight & Improve Your Weight Loss

Recommended Answer:
Maybe.... hard to say, without knowing if you''re creating a calorie deficit daily.

To lose weight you just have to eat slightly less than your maintenance calorie needs and yes, cardio helps.

  • If you do that you will become less toned because you will lose muscle. Muscle is what makes you look tone so if you are not eating enough your body will use muscle as fuel and you will not look good. You should actually normal 3 meals a day and workout with weights and do cardio. Look at the girls that do track and field they are very tone.

Quickest Way to Lose Weight - How Lose Weight Quickly

Recommended Answer:
Take the first weeks to start slowly. Instead of taking the car to some where close by, walk there and forget elevators, take the stairs. Then start running/jogging [do you have a treadmill?] if not, just KEEP MOVING!

I like to do pushups, squats and jump rope. I hate going out when it''s hot so I can do this at home in front of the tv even. Also, I bought some tension bands for exercise and they''re good for resistance exercises [think weights w/o the heaviness]

As for food, don''t think of it as a diet, just healthier options. Eat grilled chicken, veggies [remember the greener, more colorful the better]. For salads, keep it interesting and mix it up. It''s all about experimentation to avoid getting into a rut. I like eating lentils, beans, grains, etc. Also avoid soda, clear/dark, whatever, it''s bad for you. Drink water, lots of it.

Is there a friend you can start doing all this with? It''s really good if you have somebody that lives close to you who can go through this for motivation/support. Or you can email me!

As with anything, just hang in there but don''t let this completely take over your life. Keep in mind that the best ''makeover'' is your attitude. Be confident in 8th grade and don''t let anybody get you down. Good luck!

  • Blueberries and berries boost ur metabolism and any fruits are good and running will burn alot of calories depending on how much u wiegh u should download this app "myfitnesspal" it could tell u how much u will burn for 10 min or more haha hopefully this helped :D
  • nah son
  • without exercise you wont lose much weight
  • eat some fruits and veggies, also some fiber, makes a fruit salad with yogurt and stuff make some protein shakes i had one before that taste like snickerdoodle (look up recipes, my mom always made them for me) im 15 i weigh 114-120 im pretty lazy but i have a fast matabalism, i use to eat whatever i want now i cant so im starting too work out and when i do for 2 days i end up beig able to run really fast amd more fit, its different for everyone but those foods will help. try jogging and walking for 15 or maybe 20 mins and then at the end run as fast as you can (strech before all of this) then when you get home wait for a while then start doing some sit up and push up and stay in a push up position as long as you can. it will help if i did this for a week id loose alot of weight because my matablism but im lazy :D . and drink 8 ounces of water and orange juice. good luck hun.!
  • Well since you''re still growing you should be eating mostly whatever you want but the foods to stay away from would be like: fastfood of any sort, packagedsnacks, most sweets, and greasy foods. These are all unnatural foods to your system and contain unhealthy additives. Foods to eat would be anything fresh, green, and hand prepared. Meat without sauces will usually be fine but stay away from greasy, fried, or charred meats (Really charred meat is cancerous but not weight related). Eat what you consider healthy and don''t be afraid to eat anything. Eat whatever you like but just be conscious of if its healthy or not. Whatever you do, do not be bulimic. Exercises like jogging, running, stairclimbing, etc, will help your fat burning but will most likely cause you to gain weight (muscle that is!)

What are some good workouts to get abs?

Thanks

Easy Ways to Lose Weight and Burn Excess Fat Safely

Recommended Answer:
jogging is an excellent exercise because it let you lose weight
evenly throughout your whole body. If you want to lose weight in
specific areas, you should target them with exercises. If they are
your problem areas, they will be very difficult to tone. You will have
to work double on them. The best approach is this:
1. Lower/control your daily calorie intake (control for normal
weight, lower for overweight).
2. Run/jog to lower your overall body fat percentage.
3. Target your problem areas with exercises.
an excellent exercise, you can do it in front of your TV: sit on a
stool, and put your toes under something (piece of heavy furniture,
for example). In your hands hold a little dumbbell. Please, make sure
that it is not very heavy, start with one kilo, for example, or you
will damage your back and spine! Slowly move the upper part of your
body back, until it''s parallel with the ground. Stop for a second and
move it back to the sitting position. Repeat ten times. Every week add
to the number of repetitions. You will see the results in a week,
guaranteed! You will see or feel under the fat - if you have any - six
pack and muscles. Dumbbells do wonders. Much better than these
crunches - I came up to three hundreds and there was no results AT
ALL. With the dumbbells you will see it in a week.

  • Everyone can get abs in theory. Unfortunately some will have to work far longer than others to reach that goal. Forget simply strengthening the muscles through variations of sit ups, yoga, Pilates etc. abs Abs show because of a lean physique. Diet is critical. Psychologically you need to train yourself to always reject anything that contains useless energy such as sugars and saturated fats. Any "oh just thus time I''m allowed to have a bit" means you don''t want the abs enough. A strict diet and a 5 time a week HIGH INTENSITY cardio workout, especially an old school no frills boxing gym should get the average body there in 6 months. A bigger older or more unfit body will need to slowly get there starting with the typical cardio until they can perform at a high intensity level. In the end the work and focus required is easy if you want it. After a month of being serious it becomes addictive and automatic.
  • abs is about body fat percentage. You will not achieve abs from doing a certain exercise. You can strengthen your core but those wont "get" you abs. Eat right and do cardio my friend

Does this diet plan work? Low-carb?

I heard that cutting carbs will help you lose weight. I am pretty thin already but need some extra help with the last 10lbs. I know that you get carbs from some fruits and vegetables. I would be eating those, just cutting out processed sugar and breads.

Walking to Lose Weight - Fitness Tips For Any Season

Recommended Answer:
I lost a lot of weight on an LC diet, but if you''re eating fruit every day, then your body will never go into ketosis (fat-burning metabolism rather than glucose burning). Ketosis is very fragile. Even just one high-carbohydrate meal knocks you out, and then you have to spend several days or more fully getting back into ketosis again.

Your diet sounds fine, but most fruits would not be compatible with the diet. Small amounts of berries would be okay, as would non-sweet fruits like avocados, but that''s about it.

For ketosis to really be effective, you want dietary fats to make up around 80-85% of your calories, protein around 10-15%, and carbohydrates no more than 5%. And ideally, your carbohydrate grams would total no more than around 30 per day. Vegetables are totally fine on an LC diet, as are nuts and seeds, but the carbohydrates do add up, so you''ll need to count. Two cups of broccoli after deducting for fiber would be around 4-5 grams of carbohydrate, for example.

Bread, rice, beans, oats, potatoes, corn, sugar, pasta, fruit - these are basically off limits or eaten in extreme moderation, as they''ll break your carb budget fast.

  • If you are eating fruits, any sugar and any breads then that''s not low carb.
  • It normally does work for most people, but not for everyone. It really just depends on a number of factors, however I believe it will work for you. You should try it out for awhile and if it works then great! If not then at least you tried, good luck.
  • Hope this helps :)
    http://www.webmd.com/diet/high-protein-low-carbohydrate-diets
  • "PRETTY THIN ALREADY"...... then you do not need to diet.
  • Your diet plan is great, fruits and vegetables are the healthiest food you can consume.
  • Do NOT take the advice of that webmd link above. Watch a documentary called FatHead to explain both the flaws in the guidelines of both the USDA and AHA when it comes to food consumption. Red meat is NOT bad for you. Bread and pasta IS. I''ll link the documentary so you can watch. It''s funny and very informative.

Also, if you need further evidence, google search for a study published in August of 2003 in the Annals of Internal Medicine (a scholarly journal) on low-carb diets. The purpose was to compare weight-loss results, and there was no significant difference after 2 years, but those on low-carb diet plans had much BETTER cholesterol and overall cardiovascular health than those on low-fat. It just goes to show how stubborn the government is when it comes to nutrition.

In any case. If you''re thin, you likely will have a hard time with 10 pounds, but going to less than 25g of carbs one week, 50g the next and then returning to 150-250g to sustain weight will probably offer the best results. Doing LOTS of hard cardio will help, too. Don''t lift any weights or you''ll gain muscle (unless you cant to gain muscle).

Like I said, ten pounds for anall-ready thin person will be tough. Make sure you''re eating enough (there''s no calorie limits, so eat up!), and remember if you start binging on carbs or adding a lot back in, you''ll also gain the weight back. Good luck!

Fast Ways to Lose Weight and Keep it Off Forever!

Recommended Answer:
Yes you can lose 40 pounds 4 months but you have to be really strict about everything you are eating. So no sugary junk items or calories that aren''t going in for a specific purpose. I lost 40 pounds from july to november last year just by making sure I was doing some form of exercise every day- even if it was just going for a walk and by eating correctly and at the right times of day.

You don''t want to lose 40 pounds any faster then before may as you will just be losing muscle instead of fat which will lower your bone density if you continue it over a long period of time. So just keep doing what you are doing. The main thing to remember is that this isn''t just an activity till may you need to continue eating right and exercising for the rest of your life.

  • Hey! I''m glad to know that you are trying to lose weight I am in the same situation! Two years ago I tried to lose 50 pounds. Then I had a tragedy gained 76 pounds and this year I have worked in losing it. I started trying to lose weigh in October, by eating right, running, weights, and some crunches. So far I have lost 57 pounds!! So I am sure you can do it too!!
  • Nope you wont lose that much by May. You can lose that possibly in a year or two. My fiance lost over 40lbs in 6 years. The same one you said had fat arms.. But anyways its possible to lose maybe 15lbs by then but all that depends on what your eating and what not. Also weight fluctuates 3-5lbs a day. Also losing weight fast is not good. Youll end up gaining it back and then some... Just sayin.

If anyone is flabby its you tubby. I hope gain that 10 lbs back,
  • if you don''t eat stuff with fat in it ,like butter and cheese look at the label calories from fat should be low or your wasting your time if you eat or drink stuff with high fat content . if i was your Trainer you could lose 40 lbs by the end of may and look and feel great also.

How to lose 20-25 pounds in 4-5 months?

I need to lose 20-25 pounds and tone up my body all in 4-5 months, but i''m not sure what exercises and what to eat to do it all.
I need to save up money so I can''t go to the gym or anything (maybe sometimes) so is there any way to lose weight and tone up your body with exercises that don''t need machines or anything like that.
Right now I go to Aikido once a week and I''m jumping on the trampoline and sometimes going outside with my brother to do rolls and stuff like that.

So all I need is a schedule that will help me, not just tell me what I need to do.
I currently weight around 132 pounds and I want to go down to 120 till august.

  • I was fat for a large portion of my life, and this sounds exactly like what I did when I started trying to lose weight. I felt tired, fatigued, and just depressed. Oh, I was hungry the whole time and lost no weight. So, please, do not do what I did.

This is one of the most common mistakes people make when trying to lose weight. There is a certain, specific list of nutrients and foods your body needs when you are trying to lose weight. When you deprive your body of what it needs, it literally shuts down. This is why, if you keep doing what you are doing, you won''t see results.

I know how you feel; having unwanted bodyweight is extremely frustrating. Through years of trial and error I found something that worked for me, and now my clients. There is a balance that, when put into place, makes weight loss laughably easy. I can’t really explain all of it here, but my website will really help you http://www.secret.lightmindfitness.com

Losing Weight and Losing Those Love Handles

Recommended Answer:
You have to maybe wait until you''ve lost more of your weight to see the difference on your calves and thighs. Maybe you store more fat there than other parts of your body.

Also you could be doing exercises that bulk up your calves which you should then avoid.

Keep your diet on track so that you get to you goal weight and start doing workouts that create long, lean, toned bodies and not bulky or masculine muscular ones.

Try ballet/barre inspired, yoga, pilates or fusions of them. Those create great bodies especially for legs! Look into:

Lotte Berk or Bar Method
Pure Barre
Ballet Body Signature Series from leah sarago
Rockin Models
Pop Physique
Physique 57
Cardio Barre
Ballet Beautiful
Tracy Anderson Method
Ballerobica
Barre3
Booty Barre
Exhale Core Fusion
Winsor Pilates
AeroBarre
anything from Ellen Barrett or Kristen Mcgee
Xtend Barre

These are all great. Also try Tonique workouts.

  • Your probably gaining muscle.
  • What exercises do you perform? Try swimming an cycling as they target the leg area. And don''t get upset but it may actually be your genes, you may be bigger bones and your muscle mass may be different compared to your family. Also try hiking and walking more frequently
  • Omgosh I have the same problem too, but apparently mine is genetics. I seriously want to wear boots.
One of the trainers I talk to said that there is fat around the calves area and we need to work it out by doing calf raises, but i feel like that is going to make mine bigger. You should try it out.
Also, if you have been running and doing any sports at a young age that is also a reason why you have big calves.
Eventually, if you keep on working out, your calf will decrease.

How did you lose weight around your thighs ?? I have been doing squats and lunges with weights and elliptical for 40 mins for 2 weeks now. No improvement at all. :( But I lost 20pounds prior to that..
  • My calves took a while to slim down when I lost weight. I wanted a pair of knee high boots and I bought a pair I could just squeeze into without any socks or pants and over the course of two months of running I slimmed down enough to get into them comfortably.

Try doing some different exercises to tighten up all of the muscles down there and continue to reduce your body fat percentage with diet and hopefully your legs will slim down.
  • Ok if you dont wanna listen to people telling you the truth, then ask a nutritionist or another expert, why are you instructing people to be stupid for you? Your calves are a muscle, nearly pure muscle, how do you lose muscle? you stop training that area, but there isnt anybody thats not training their calves, when you walk you use them all the time, you know? Any fat that you take in doesnt go to your calves, it goes largely into your belly, hips, and thighs, the only way calves would have fat in them is in a severely obese person and even thats rare. Keep working on your legs and thighs, maybe when that starts getting slimmer your calves will naturally ''appear'' smaller. And we are also not exact copies of our parents, we also carry our own set of unique variations and mutations that our parents did not have. I have real big calves, the kind you see in sprinters, my dad has baby calves, my mom has an athletic body type so her calves are as average for a fit woman as it gets, so how do I have the calves of a sprinter then?
  • I know how you feel! i have massive calf muscles but no one else does in my family! Im a dancer so this probably builds up my muscles a lot. I actually asked the doctor about it and he just said its the way im built and theres not much i can do about it. :( The only way to get rid of muscle like that is to not eat much and sit around without moving for a long amount of time so you lose muscle. But then you wont be able to run and jump etc since all your muscle is gone. I have recently lost 4kg and am at my healthy weight, and my calf muscles stayed the same, i suppose its somthing we will have to learn to love :)
