My daughter wants to do a 15 day water fast?

My 12 year old daughter wants to do a 15 day water fast, she claims her reason is to detox her body...but I'm suspicious that she's doing this to try to lose weight, she used to be overweight, but she's thin now. Is this safe? Should I let her do this? What are the pros and cons? Thank you, God Bless.

How to Lose Weight Fast by Not Eating

Recommended Answer:

This is perfectly safe and healthy for the bodh. Muslims do this during ramadan, which is 30 days. Espiacally if she works out, she will see way quicker results. But she has to do it safely. Let her eat breakfast, then after breakfast not eat at all till around 12 hours, then let her eat again. She cant drink water either during the fast, so if shes gonna be going out and stuff, may not be safe. And let her only work out either before the breakfast or after the fast. Many people have been doing this trick, very healthy (read up on Google things like "Ramadan health benefits".

Other Answers:

  • No 12 yr old should be fasting for 2 wks...she needs a well balanced diet and healthy amount of exercise...like all kids need...
  • You're considering letting your daughter starve herself for more than two weeks? Wow, you win mommy of the year, please contact your local child protection agency for your prize.
  • There is no benefit to eliminating water for 15 days, but as long as she drinks other fluids (like gator aid), she should not become ill.
  • If you are stupid enough to ask this, you don't deserve kids.of course a water fast is bad! it puts your body in starvation mode!!!like are you serious!!! its common sense.
  • if she's not going to drink or eat anything else than water this is definitely not a good idea, shes still growing and needs nutrients
  • No no no this is not a good idea a water fast is never a good idea but she's only 12 her body isn't fully developed yet !! There are no pros to this idea tell her to stop now she could damage her body
  • No. That would be rough on an adult, but a 12-year-old is still growing and needs nutrients for health. If she wants to detox her body that's fine, but she does not need to make herself sick to do so. By eliminating junk foods and drinks (including all processed sugar, white flour, etc.) and eating only healthy, natural foods and beverages, her body should cleanse itself. I don't believe there are any pros to a pre-teen living on water alone for 15 days, but I am sure your doctor would give you many cons. If she is very insistent, make an appointment. The last thing you want is for your daughter to develop an eating disorder and I'm sure her pediatrician or your family doctor will give you some good advice to follow.
  • She can juice, which isn't bad for her. Using fruits and vegetables and water only. Puree the fruits and vegetables, and let her juice. Do not let her drink nothong but water for 15 days. Coming from someone who struggles with an eating disorder, don't let your child dupe you because that's what she's doing, even if she doesn't realize it. Juicing is safe and detoxes without her starving herself of nutrients she needs.
