Why do a lot of girls gain weight after high school?

I have been out of high school for 4 years. I have noticed that many of the girls that were thin in high school have blown up and gained weight.

I always assumed its because everyone starts driving everywhere and they eat terrible foods. That's the upside of not having a car I guess, I just walk everywhere and I like it. My roommate is a good example, she's overweight and every time I mention going somewhere, she offers to drive me and insists because she really thinks that its bad fsr, she says things like "No, I don't want you to have to walk! I'll just drive." And I'm always trying to convince her that I LIKE walking, lol. I went to a store with another friend of mine (who is overweight) and we finished with two full shopping bags each and she wanted to wait for the bus to come! We live about 4 blocks from the store, lol. I got her to just walk with me. Some people don't like their legs it seems lol. I've list weight since high school though, but I kind of think I had a better body back then tbh.

Other Answers:

  • Freshmen 15
  • Because some girls have nothing to do after high school so they just sit and eat.
  • Peoples' metabolisms slow down in their early 20's. I don't care though because I like chubby women.
  • Watch people say thats not true. I worked at mcdonalds once. The only girls who had a body in there were all 16 and below. everybody 21 and up were fat, extremely fat. And some had the nerve to even hit on me or ask me out. Good god.
  • Girls gain weight because the adult world is far more stressful than teenage life, metabolism starts to slow down as we grow up so the things we could one eat now go straight to our thighs and we are in our prime child bearing age in our early 20s so we hold on to more fat. The biggest factor I believe is stress. I gained weight after high school because I moved out immediately, go a job, had a million bills, and went to school. It was stressful, not to mention the fact that a struggling young adult with little income can much more easily afford a cheap fattening meal than a light, healthy one.
  • If you don't have the discipline to workout on a regular basis, it happens. (for some it happens even if you consistently work out, like the girls I used to weight train with in high school).I used to workout religiously... then the stress of college, partying (lots of calories in drinking), sleeping in late, irregular daily schedules, etc. all of that weighs you down, literally. I didn't even mention the freshman 15 because not everyone has an issue with portion control. Even when you graduate... if you get a desk job (usually a better paying job than say being a retail sales associate or waitress) for the better part of the day you are sitting. Sedentary if you don't workout everyday. Our culture promotes a sedentary lifestyle that's hard to resist and very easy to get caught up in.
  • Puberty and metabolism.
  • Glad you asked. For starters, children and teens are growing, and that takes a lot of energy. It isn't uncommon for children and teens of both genders to be bottomless pits for food, and not appear to gain a pound. Super jealous, right? It catches up to them when they are finished growing in their early 20s and their metabolism slows way down. Sadly, their unhealthy eating habits do not change, and they pile on the pounds.Add to it the stress of work, college, possibly a bad marriage, raising children, and women's propensity to compensate for emotional distress by eating (endorphin rushes, it's complicated), and it's no surprise many women gain weight. But wait, there's more! Many women gain significant weight during and after pregnancy. This is partly due to insufficient exercise and over eating or eating unhealthy, but also partly due to the fact that a large portion of the female population suffers a slow down in the thyroid during and after pregnancy. Post pregnancy hypothyroidism isn't exactly uncommon, though it's believed to be severely under-diagnosed.Post partum depression includes all the main symptoms of depression, which in women also commonly includes weight gain.Depo provera, a popular birth control injection, also causes extreme weight gain as a rather common side effect.Mostly it boils down to poor stress coping mechanisms, poor diet, insufficient exercise (especially in stay at home moms), and failure to recognize or properly treat the underlying problem. Many of these problems happen in men as well, though.
  • Can't say I have noticed this, must be your area or something. The only time I see women blow up in weights are either when they are fast approaching 30 and above or they purposely let themselves go. Don't see a lot of fat early 20's women unless they really couldn't be bothered about fitness or something.
  • I've noticed this too but it happened to some of the guys as well. As a chick I have no idea. I lost after high school but that's because I had more to do in college. My guess is some chicks and guys don't have as active a life once the amateur sports etc are gone.

is an hour a day good enough to get bigger from weight lifting?

Something doesn't seem right. Like lifting weights for 45 minutes will really make a big difference in muscle gain M. Plus I want to lose weight but problem is I'm eating all my calories back that I lose. Is there something I'm doing wrong that might cause me to gain fat than muscle. I eat right but is going over calories burned bad even for muscle growth?

Questions about cardio and strength training?

I need to lose weight. I am also starting training for a 2 week long bike trip in August. It''s still winter here (I''m in Alaska), so I have an exercise bike I can use. I found a strength training routine that is about 20 minutes long. It says to alternate days with it and cardio.

1. Could I do the cardio everyday (5-6 days/week) and add the strength every other day? I think they have you alternate to keep your workouts shorter, but I don''t mind spending up to an hour total exercising.

2. If I do cardio and strength in one workout, which should I do first and why?

3. Once the roads get clear of ice and snow, should I add running? If so, what rotation should I do with road biking (or on the machine if weather is bad)?
I am about 50 pounds overweight, so the training is part of my weight loss plan.

How to Lose Weight and Keep it Off - Don''t Read This If You Aren''t Serious About Losing Weight

You can exercise cardio and strength 5 days a week, stay under an hour. Do the cardio first to warm your body up, it will help your strength training and help prevent injuries. Once the weather gets better street cycle an hour a day 5 days a week and still do your strength training every other day. Because you''ll start cycling more building up to whatever a daily requirement of the race is. Always wear a helmet and keep water with you.

  • Well i dont know your goal or body type;
but i workout 3 days a week in the gym. After i finish my weight workouts i do about 20-30 minutes on the treadmill followed by pushups and ab workouts. 3 days i dont go to the gym i do a light workout at home (squats simple weight moves pushups etc.) This way i can increase stamina endurance and increase body size and strength.
But my personal advice to u is if u have an intense bike riding trip try to focus mainly on biking with different intensities, try to increase the distance and resistance week by week.
  • 20 mins is better than nothing but 60 mins is better than 20. What''s the goal we want to reach together; The two of us sitting at our computers? I think it''s that I get to help you lose weight for your trip.

The secret to diet and fitness is in finding out what the answer to YOUR secret is. There is something that will work best for every single person, individually, at one moment or another. And that person is the only one who knows what that is. In other words, listen to your body. Some days you''ll feel like doing the heavy weights, and another you might feel explosive, still other days might have you feeling like climbing something, you can even have days where you can''t move at all. Anyone can only suggest a few things to try out but only you know what works.

Finalllllly!! I''ve been searching for a weightloss buddy for ages and no ones been interested I''ve been trying to lose weight as well hate when summer rolls around and I''m cry because I look like a beached whale my email is tronemaria@yahoo.com

  • Hey Danielle,

May I suggest a very simple diet and very effective one. I''ve called it simply The Secret Diet.
So the most important thing for you is not to change much of what you usually eat but to change the way you eat, and here is the secret: 6 meals/day. To much food you''ll say.... but not really. The thing is that you should split the food that you normally eat in a day in 6 equals parts and eat according to a strict schedule. This and some exercises will deliver some good result.
If this doesn''t work as expected to, there are some non-surgical procedure to choose from:
Endermologie, Mesotherapy, Radiesse, Sclerotherapy, Skin Care and Thermage
You can read more about Mesotherapy here: http://www.abcps.com/procedure/mesotherapy/

Good luck and a strong will!

Do I have diabetes type 1...?

Ok, I''m 14, and a girl and recently mum said *sigh* that there were ants in the bathroom and they are attracted to diabetic urine...I''ve read somewhere that it was false, and they just I don''t know...
But I am extremely worried and I wanted to see if I had any signs :)

1. I pee about 3-4 maybe 5 times a day (more when I''m not active)
2. I get randomly dizzy (been happening ever since I was 6)

I don''t have any other symptoms, I''m average weight (45kilos) and average height and no-one in my family had diabetes...but I have a bad diet, which in the holidays consisted of pretty much, chocolate, milk, water & pasta, but in the last 3 weeks, fruit and veg.

I am hoping I don''t have it, I really do, and I''m willing to be more healthy and fit but I hope I don''t have it!

P.S Don''t even mention ''tests'' or ''doctors'' it''s not happening.
P.P.S I don''t have any increased need for water or going to the bathroom

How Can I Lose Weight in a Healthy Way?

Recommended Answer:
I doubt very much, your mum was pulling your leg !
Symptoms include, rapid weight loss, excessive peeing ( on average 6 times a day is perfectly acceptable ) Excessive thirst,( no matter how much you drink you are still thirsty ? )
Sweating and shaking, bad headaches, and very bad mood swings are also symptoms.
If you have non of these , then I bet you are fine.
a simple urine test at the gp can determine if you have a lot of sugar in your urine, then they may consider a fasting glucose test , I don;t think you need these. stop worrying ! :)

  • You sound ok.
  • Impossible to determine without a test.
