I'm on a diet but gaining weight?

(Sorry, I know I just asked this but I only got 2 answers and I know that after 10 minutes or so, people won't answer it anymore.)

I am a girl teenager, 5'7", and around 155 lbs
I have been trying to lose weight for about 2 weeks now, but I'm actually GAINING weight.

I'm eating under 1,600 calories a day, I'm working out every day for at least an hour, I'm eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, I only drink water, and I'm even taking vitamins. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I know a lot of people could say that I'm gaining muscle, but I don't think that my workouts are vigorous enough that I would be. When I exercise, I do about 20+ push ups, sit ups, and the rest of the time I spend on a stationary bike while lifting 3 lb weights in both arms.

Every morning I get up around 6 AM, and eat a breakfast of peaches and a piece of toast. The rest of the day I eat carrots, bananas, peaches, apples, and lettuce. Other than that is usually just water and a turkey sandwich.

Since I have started trying to lose weight, I have gained 3 lbs. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong/ what I need to be doing? Much appreciated!

Best Exercise to Lose Weight For You

First off it seems as if you aren't getting enough protein to be losing weight! You don't just need protein to gain weight you need it to lose weight. I like that you work out regularly but maybe change it to only 3-4 times a week. What is happening here is that you aren't getting enough protein to burn so by the time you start your work out, despite it being a short workout, there isn't anything to be burn, so you're actually gaining muscle instead, so it's not working out in your favor. You said you gained 3 pounds, that makes perfect sense!

I tell this to a lot of people who need help getting into shape. You need to eat smaller portions, ever 3 hours. Build up your metabolism. And don't just eat fruits and veggies, as healthy as that can be, you need protein( fish, lean meat, egg white, ect) for your body to understand what to burn. I really hope this helped. I lost 22 pounds doing all of this in 6 months, good luck to you! :D

  • even though your exercises aren't that vigorous you could still just be gaining muscle. also i would suggest eating more protein that might help with losing weight and gaining muscle
