What do you consider "healthy foods"?

Just a question of others opinions and what people see as healthy & what they like to eat that is healthy.

The Best Way to Lose Weight With Hypothyroidism

Recommended Answer:

I consider healthy food to be low-calorie food. HOWEVER, like the first person said...All food is healthy; the amounts we have are what matter. I lost over 100lbs (19 years old and went from 225 to 120, then gained muscle to 135) and while losing it, I really considered the health foods to be things low in calories. My biggest peeve was when people trying to lose weight would eat things like almonds, peanut butter, granola, dried fruit, etc. because it is stereotyped as "healthy"...little do they know that it is PACKED with calories and terrible for weight loss. Some of my favorite "healthy" and low calorie foods are apples with cinnamon and splenda, oatfit oatmeal, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, light english muffins, peaches, mushroom burgers, sandwich thins, fat free cheese, fat free greek yogurt, and tofu!

Other Answers:

  • All food is healthy. It is what we do to it and how much of it we eat that makes it unhealthy. But what I would consider healthy foods, all vegetables that are dark in color. In fact the darker the green in the leafy vegetables, the better for you.
  • Veggies, mostly green. Others tend to be more starchy.Fruits, but not too much. They contain natural sugars.Turkey and chicken. No skin or breading.Whole grains. No white bread, pasta etc ...Water?
  • Made by scratch at home from real ingredients. No #2 corn based stabilizers, no CAFO milk, eggs or meat. Generally local ingredients.
  • I think of healthy as having a food that's as nutritious for the serving, the better. In the course of a day everything needs to be balanced. There is no good or bad food, but better choices. If I eat bread, I try and have whole grain. But a biscuit every now and then is ok.I try and eat fresh fruit, but a piece of apple pie is ok every now and then.I had some baked sweet potato french fries with baked pork chop for dinner. But sometimes I have a baked potato with sour cream and butter.I have found that deprivation doesn't work. But the more I eat healthy, the otherfoods just don't appeal to me as much.Plus, I eat a variety of things. I look at what's in season when foods are freshest.

Only refined cooking oils (of all types) are unhealthy for us, and are the true "bad fats" of the human diet (which is why almost all processed/prepackaged foods are so unhealthy (read ingredient labels), along with restaurant foods). Cold-pressed/raw virgin oils (coconut, olive, etc.) of all types are perfectly healthy and vital to the body in a variety of ways in proper moderation - assuming that they are used properly (not overcooked).Approx. 25-35% of your daily calories (spread out over the day) should be coming from unrefined, healthy whole food fats (or cold-pressed/raw virgin oils), and without healthy fats in our meals we only absorb/utilize a fraction of the nutrients from foods that we otherwise would. Healthy, unrefined fats of all types play many important fuctions in the body, and low/no fat diets are simply unhealthy and self-destructive over time.Since no healthy cold-pressed/raw virgin oil can withstand temperatures greater than about 350F, nothing cooked with oils is healthy past those temperatures. Refined oils can withstand greater temperatures, but they are already innately unhealthy due to the adulteration of the refinement process, so it's a wash either way at that point. If being overweight and accumulating excess body fat is what you fear, then cutting refined sugars and most grain foods (bread, pasta, cereal, crackers, etc.), along with ALL refined oils and sugar-laden drinks (including fruit juices), out of your diet should be the first thing that you do. Those are the foods most likely to instigate body fat weight gain (and destroy health) in a diet.

Other Answers:

  • Exercising works but where's the time for that right?!
  • Some oils are important in providing a small amount of fats your body needs for nerve function. If you eat a small amount of a good quality olive oil or cook with peanut oil you'll be fine. Olive oil especially has heart health nutrients too.
  • Olive oil and coconut oil are more healthy, and are actually good for us. Some oils are not good for us like the highly processed and over produced ones. It's probably a good idea to avoid fried fast food in the future. But I don't think you're anorexic, especially since you eat twice a day.

First rule out bloating. Do you have regular bowel movements? For many people, when they have a cleanse, they lose 5 pounds from compacted food in their colon and their stomachs flatten. A natural way to do that is drink warm lemon water 3 times a day, walk for 30 minutes a day and eat a balanced diet of whole grains, fresh fruits, veggies and lean meats. Whether you limit your dairy consumption or cut it out completely is dependent on your history with dairy. Some people are lactose intolerant. Others aren't and can eat a fair amount of dairy while on a diet as long as it's low fat. Stay away from processed sugar and enriched, bleached, white flour because they contribute to belly fat. Drink water over juice and soda. For abs, what's worked for me is Tae-Bo Insane Abs. I do it once a week now. I lose weight rather easily because I have an extremely fast metabolism so I don't do much of anything else. I run on occassion mostly for stress. Do aerobics and zumba dance fitness for fun. • Hi Nawaf, my guess is that you are already exercising. One thing that most people overlook is how essential proper nutrition is to reaching your fitness goals. I sure did when I was younger, then as I got older I realized I couldn't do it through just exercise.Start by making cruciferous vegetables a part of your everyday diet. But most people can't stand eating broccoli and cauliflower, so here's some suggestions for healthy foods that you actually might like:- dark chocolate- coconut milk, flour, oil- pasture-raised butter- whole eggs, including the yolk- grass-fed beef- avocados- nuts; walnuts, almonds, pistachios, pecans, more...Some of the items on this might be surprising. To learn more about how they fit into a healthy diet, check out the source listed below.Hope this helped, Nawaf

Fruits, vegetables, and green tea. Right now I was craving something to eat like I always do at night, so I had some carrots and a cup of green tea.It kinda sucks when you depend on your parents for food and stuff because you can't choose what they cook. My dad knows I'm trying to get healthy yet he continually takes me out for fast food because it's easiest for him.

The Problem With Losing Weight

Recommended Answer:
I was fat for a large portion of my life, and this sounds exactly like what I did when I started trying to lose weight. I felt tired, fatigued, and just depressed; I lost 10 pounds in a little over 2 months. Oh, and I was hungry the whole time. So, please, do not do what I did.

This is one of the most common mistakes people make when trying to lose weight. There is a certain, specific list of nutrients and foods your body needs when you are trying to lose weight. When you deprive your body of what it needs, it literally shuts down. This is why, if you do use this food in your diet, you won''t see results.

I know how you feel; having unwanted bodyweight is extremely frustrating. Through years of trial and error I found something that worked for me, and now my clients. There is a balance that, when put into place, makes weight loss laughably easy. I can’t really explain all of it here, but my website will really help you http://www.secret.lightmindfitness.com

  • some people talk/write TOO MUCH but dont say ANYTHING!... this will help!

    Do NOt Eat:

    * Bread, Rice, Noodles, Cereal - all carbs - store excess fat regardless of bodies need.
    * Most convenient snacks - fruit roll ups, gushers, and even the granola bars aren''t as good for you as they claim!
    * KoolAid - 2 cups of STRAIGHT SUGAR!!!
    * soft drinks, sodas, energy drinks... i dont touch anything with over 12g carbs which are ALL sugar!
    - I would NOT recommend substituting the sugar free ones, the sugar sub is linked to cancer.
*Even ALL natural fruit juices have a lot of natural sugar which is better but if over consumed will store fat!
    * bananas are surprisingly fattening so i only eat them in 1/2s or 1/4s at a time.

Things to Consume A LOT of:

    * Water (ill add lemon juice or cucumbers for flavoring!)
    * Sparkling water with lime - tricks ME into thinking i''m drinking soda! I haven''t had a soda in 5 months!
    * salads- add strawberries, nuts, cucumbers and goat cheese with an Asian Fat Free dressing... you will love!!! Add baked chicken for a complete meal!
    * soups - cabbage, bell peppers, onions, celery, squash, beans, tomatoes, potatoes(sparingly), yams, broccoli, cauliflower, etc are ALL great ingredients On their own, teamed up or all together with some broth (veggie preferably).
    * Salsa Chicken : I brown the sides of fresh raw chicken slices in a lightly oiled pan then simmer on medium for 45 minutes in my favorite Salsa! Its a protein packed, carb-less meal!
    * steamed carrots and broccoli are a great in between meals snack! Tastes great, fills you up, healthy and relatively fat free.
*Pre-made salads- sliced cucumbers & red onions combined with chopped peanuts and cilantro.

    2 Possible Dressings:

    1) Whisk together the 1/4 cup raw sugar and 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar in a mixing bowl until the sugar has dissolved.

    2) Mix with:
    juice of 1/2 lime
    1-2 cloves garlic, minced
    1/2 tsp. shrimp paste
    1 Tbsp. soy sauce
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper (to taste)
    1 to 1+1/2 tsp. sugar

The trick is to eat small amounts every hour or two to keep your metabolism going. Starving yourself will have a detrimental effect on your actual health and will most likely cause you to gain even more weight.

Walk DONT RUN!, Walking a 1/2 hour a day will be perfect but keep a good pace, no running...bad for your joints and REALLY not necessary :)

Hope this is enough for now!
