Does birth control make you gain weight?

I'm 13 years old (NO. I'M NOT SEXUALLY ACTIVE.) and I have super bad acne. I've tried everything. Anything from the drugstore. I even went to the dermatologist 2 times and the stuff they gave me does NOT work.My stepmother told me that if we HAD to I could go on birth control to clear up my skin.I have a few questions for those of you who are on it.Did you gain weight?(I'm 5'0, 110 pounds. Can't afford to put on anymore.)Did your boobs get bigger?(Awkward, but I'm a B cup... Don't want them to grow, either.)Is it bad to take if you do long distance running? 3+ miles a day & sprints?Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it (:

No, birth control pills do not cause weight gain: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/06/110607104927.htm(However, Depo Provera, the birth control injection, may be linked to weight fluctuations, due to the way it could potentially change your metabolism).Yes, your breasts may fluctuate in size during your cycle when on birth control: http://goaskalice.columbia.edu/does-taking-pill-increase-size-your-breastsNo, it's perfectly fine to take birth control pills and do long-distance running.Hope that helps!

  • Yeah, it usually does cause some weight gain. It messes with your hormones and is generally not a good thing to start taking at your age. Sorry about your acne. Lots and lots of people have it and eventually it goes away.I don't think that birth control is a reasonable way to deal with acne. There are many better options that your dermatologist can discuss with you.
  • Since the side effects are different for everyone there is no way to guarantee your acne will clear up.I didn't gain any weight when on the pill, although I know it does happen to a small number of people. My breasts were still growing when I started taking the pill, but I'm pretty sure they didn't influence my breast growth at all.Exercise has nothing to do with birth control, so it isn't a bad thing at all.
  • 1. I did not.2. Unfortunately, not at all.3. I don't think exercise affects it
  • When I went on the pill after my first pregnancy, I did gain about 5 pounds. I'm 5'2" and about 118 lbs. So as you can imagine I did not need the extra weight. My boobs didnt get bigger. However, with proper exercise and diet (all healthy no starving or extremes) it came off after a few months.
