Does birth control make you gain weight?

I'm 13 years old (NO. I'M NOT SEXUALLY ACTIVE.) and I have super bad acne. I've tried everything. Anything from the drugstore. I even went to the dermatologist 2 times and the stuff they gave me does NOT work.My stepmother told me that if we HAD to I could go on birth control to clear up my skin.I have a few questions for those of you who are on it.Did you gain weight?(I'm 5'0, 110 pounds. Can't afford to put on anymore.)Did your boobs get bigger?(Awkward, but I'm a B cup... Don't want them to grow, either.)Is it bad to take if you do long distance running? 3+ miles a day & sprints?Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it (:

No, birth control pills do not cause weight gain: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/06/110607104927.htm(However, Depo Provera, the birth control injection, may be linked to weight fluctuations, due to the way it could potentially change your metabolism).Yes, your breasts may fluctuate in size during your cycle when on birth control: http://goaskalice.columbia.edu/does-taking-pill-increase-size-your-breastsNo, it's perfectly fine to take birth control pills and do long-distance running.Hope that helps!

  • Yeah, it usually does cause some weight gain. It messes with your hormones and is generally not a good thing to start taking at your age. Sorry about your acne. Lots and lots of people have it and eventually it goes away.I don't think that birth control is a reasonable way to deal with acne. There are many better options that your dermatologist can discuss with you.
  • Since the side effects are different for everyone there is no way to guarantee your acne will clear up.I didn't gain any weight when on the pill, although I know it does happen to a small number of people. My breasts were still growing when I started taking the pill, but I'm pretty sure they didn't influence my breast growth at all.Exercise has nothing to do with birth control, so it isn't a bad thing at all.
  • 1. I did not.2. Unfortunately, not at all.3. I don't think exercise affects it
  • When I went on the pill after my first pregnancy, I did gain about 5 pounds. I'm 5'2" and about 118 lbs. So as you can imagine I did not need the extra weight. My boobs didnt get bigger. However, with proper exercise and diet (all healthy no starving or extremes) it came off after a few months.

How to Lose Weight When You Are Elderly

I went on a water fast for about 48 hours. I am very skinny already. I did it to heal my body. Healing benefits from fasting are supposed to be substantially evident. It will not be easy and is potentially hazardous. Expect mood swings, fatigue, headache is common if your are involved in physical activity while fasting or after breaking a fast. Your body stores nutrients in your liver and fat cells since birth. So also consider your age when contemplating a fast. Your body may not be well developed to successfully handle a fast. Go with a juice fast, to start off. A natural juice extractor is the only way. Fasting also takes preparation. Practicing for fasts is common. Also a healthy diet and breaking the fast with health foods is very important. The first 24 hours is supposed to be the most difficult. After that the cravings for food subside. Your body my go into ketosis, Where nutrients from your liver are used before breaking down of fat cells, and then vital muscle tissue, such as heart tissue. Most would say consult a physician, I say proceed with caution and continue to research. It can be helpful and a somewhat enlightening experience. Also look up intermittent fasting.

  • What is it?
  • Physical EffectColdness, bad breath and heightened body odor, changes in elimination (constipation or diarrhea), light-headedness, changes in sleeping and dreaming patterns, aches and pains.A white-coated tongue at the beginning of a fast may be a part of the body's pattern of throwing off toxins. Also expect to go the the bathroom often (you will be drinking lots of water!)Suggested ReliefAfter the first two weeks of an extended fast, many of these symptoms subside. Continuing aches in a certain area of the body usually means elimination of fatty tissue is going on in that area, which is not harmful. However, any extensive pain should be examined immediately.YOU SHOULD STOP FASTING IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING SEVERE PAIN OR SWELLING.Physical EffectHeadaches or stomachaches may be a result of salt, sugar, or caffeine withdrawal.Suggested ReliefEliminating those items from your diet prior to fasting is the best way to avoid these pains.Physical EffectLower back pain may indicate that you are dehydratingSuggested ReliefDrink more fluidsPhysical EffectDizziness may be caused by a sudden change in position, such as rising suddenly from a chair.Suggested ReliefStop for a second or two, then recover. Move slowly. (A word of caution: these conditions may be symptoms of other problems requiring medical attention).Physical EffectMinor fasting discomfortSuggested ReliefTake one teaspoon of psyllium seed powder morning and evening. Mixed in lukewarm water, it becomes like Jell-O. This powder will hasten the elimination of toxins from your colon and help to prevent headaches and dizziness for most healthy people. Alfalfa tablets can help control bad breath and cleanse the system. Two tablets at a time can be taken several times a day.
  • If you don't drink water then you will die after a few days. Any weight loss you make through water deprivation will be gained back as soon as you hydrate yourself. Don't do it. Seriously. Diet and exercise are the only way to lose weight. Eat less calories than you burn is the only solution.
  • Hmm lets see, feeling crappy, constantly tired, having to pee every 10 seconds, perpetually hungry, need I say more? I'm not trying to be mean, but not eating is very unhealthy. Your not losing fat at all, your losing valuable muscle. Eat nutritious foods and exercise, fad diets don't work.
  • Don't consume only water. Try water and fresh, natural foods like fruits, veggies, and nuts. Organic. The water diet is really hard and leaves you starving and having to pee every 5 seconds. I recommend water + natural foods. Good luck.
  • Don't do it. It will slow down your metabolism tremendously. It is unhealthy and you will suffer the effects forever. How do I know? When I was 18, I did it for two weeks. You need to be patient and lose the weight the right way.

How much water should I drink?

Daily?I'm planning on drinking a lot of water tomorrow because I'm dehydrated. I hate water so I go days without drinking anything. So what's the most water I should drink today? I was going to drink as much as I could, not like forcing myself to drink, but I was going to carry a full water bottle around with me all day and refill it constantly. I'm not gonna do anything stupid :) but.... Any warnings?

How to Lose Weight: 20 Pounds in 60 Days Without Exercise

Don't listen to nincompoops repeating what they read/heard somewhere.Double check everything (even what I say) and not getting 10 different sources from 10 different people using the same unique wrong source…You don't need to drink “8 glasses” of water or worse “a gallon”. A gallon = 16 glasses and probably would give you a huge headache and borderline water poisoning if you drink too fast…Like some marathoners who missed the speech about not drinking water when you jog (swirl it to refresh your mouth and spit it out), you can collapse and need immediate medical attention if you only drink 3 cups/hour for more than 2 hours without switching to sports drinks and replenishing your electrolytes. Those 8 glasses INCLUDE the water you get from food. If you eat high water content food like fruits/veggies, soups…you don't even need to drink water to be hydrated enough.Just fruit/veggies contain 75 to 95% or water (even meat contains 50-60% of water content). The “8 glasses” theory is based on a 128lbs person needing 64oz. You divide your weight in pounds by 2 to get the ounces…8oz = one cup or small glass, like I weigh 120lbs so I need 60oz but I'm like you and very particular about water. I like this natural spring water from a specific source in Florida…it tastes great because it tastes like nothing, just refreshing water. I filter my tap water for cooking (and for my 10 months old kitten and my plants) as I live in the US and they put fluoride in tap water there (talk about forced med on the general population). More often than not, I get my water from the food I eat like eating half a grapefruit is like drinking a glass of water but better because you also get the vitamins/minerals, fibers, carbs…(don't eat/drink grapefruits if you take any meds). An important thing you should know is that drinking water will not rehydrate you if you're dehydrated. In fact, it's the opposite as water will flush out the minerals you need to retain water (like sodium, potassium…electrolytes…hence Gatorade and other sport drinks) so you'll dehydrate faster.Unlike water in food, just water is just water. Then water goes through your body like a water cascade (lots of annoying bathroom trips), dehydrating you even more, flushing out your electrolytes (that's how people die from water poisoning when getting electrolytes imbalance in the brain). I guess if you would not force yourself to drink water too fast, like participating in a stupid water contest, you'd get a headache before getting in real trouble, hopefully not trying to drink a gallon of water. It's okay to carry a bottle of water and take a sip now and then as long as you don't gobble it down by the cup and you eat a healthy diet with food containing enough minerals so you can retain your water.Find out why you're dehydrated…there's a reason and it's probably not because you don't drink enough water, maybe just not eating enough fruits/veggies and soups or not using enough homemade chicken and vegetable broth when cooking?!?The first signs of dehydration are thirst, chapped lips, dry, itchy, red skin…As they say, if you're thirsty, you're already dehydrating, that's why you can sip water and make it a habit so you never feel thirsty.Your skin is your biggest organ and the first one to show signs of dehydration, which is good, because you can see it.Dehydration can be caused by heat system (cold weather) or A/C (hot weather) blowing dry air where you are so you might need a humidifier to restore air moisture.Use skin and lips moisturizers or cheap petroleum jelly (Vaseline) that does not get into your skin but provides a barrier so your body does not lose moisture.Another common cause of dehydration is eating/drinking diuretics and not compensating with sodium.Diuretics are drinks like alcohol, tea, coffee, sodas (anything with caffeine), cranberry juice, and food like cucumbers, watermelons, fresh tomatoes, asparagus, artichokes, beets, carrots, lettuce, raw onions, oats, melon, celery, parsley and any veggie from the cabbage family...cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, kale, collard greens, mustard, radish, horseradish, and 25 others...To avoid dehydration when eating diuretics, you need to compensate the water loss (diuretics) with water retention (sodium).I will combine cauliflower/ham in a casserole, or a slice of ham with a sandwich containing lettuce, tomato and onion (lettuce/fresh tomato/raw onion are the trifecta of diuretics in a sandwich) or eating sauerkraut with sausages and corned beef with cabbage.Like if you would drink highly dehydrating tea, you could not add salt to it so you'd have to eat salty snacks beforehand (pretzels, salty nuts, salty popcorn, soy sauce with sushi, V8 or other canned food…).Tea is used by the diet industry to make people believe they're losing body fat while they're only losing heavy water weight and dehydrating.

I decided to go vegan after what just happened?

I'm a 3.5 year old vegetarian. Since April of this year, I really started to crack down on my nutrition. Yesterday, my family hosted a grad party and I was so tempted to eat junk food that I literately ate 5 cupcakes and a bunch of cookies along with a white bread sub. In just 20 minutes, my back was in flames (I have arthritis) and my stomach felt like there was a stone in it. I woke up this morning sick to my stomach and yet again I was tempted to eat more cupcakes and cookies for breakfast... which I did. The flames and the stone are back, and I am lying on my bedroom floor in agony. I never want to feel like this again. I have always been an advocate of animal rights, and since April I have been eating many vegan meals subconsciously, so I think the transition would be easy. I have lost 17 pounds since April, and I plan on losing 9 more. I'm a cross country runner, and I workout 6 days a week. any advice?

Even most meat eaters would get sick from eating 5 cupcakes, a bunch of cookies and a submarine sandwich....good lord.Eat what ever you feel is healthy for you but I gotta tell you, you simply ate too much junk all at one time.EDIT: When you asked this same question a couple hours ago, it was 3 cupcakes and 4 cookies...are you just keeping on eating cupcakes and cookies and complaining about how you feel or are you trolling??

  • Ryan gave you some good advice. "Living Vegan for Dummies" is a good book to simplify eating Vegan.Hard lesson to learn (eating junk food and physical results), just remember, Vegan desserts contain sugar and usually high calories...(the donuts, cakes, cookies) also. The grad party was for you? Notify your parents you are eating as a Vegan and help them learn about it and the foods that are a no-no for you.Going Vegan is a good choice for other species and your health. It is easy to get enough protein, nutrients, despite what flesh eaters may try and tell you. (again, the above aforementioned books lists such info.)Learn from the hard lesson you suffered through and honestly if you stick to healthy eating you will eventually not crave the junk food. (also find out what foods trigger your arthritis...eating healthy may help alleviate the symptoms of arthritis)Vegan here!
  • Yes go vegan! Its definitely the right thing to do! And i agree with " Ryan "
