Rapid Weight Loss Sucks - Why Losing Weight Fast Doesn't Work and What You Can Do About It
Recommended Answer:
It's good to serve a well balanced dinner so you don't feel as guilty eating snack foods throughout the night, even though they will be healthier ones that you previously served at the sleepovers. Having a good dinner will also decrease your appetite, and you won't feel the need to eat food all night long. Rather you will enjoy each other's company and maybe have a group work out session!
For dinner, include as many food groups as possible. Here are some possible meal ideas:
1. Make it Italian themed. Serve whole wheat spaghetti with either tomato sauce or a butter, garlic, and parmesan cheese sauce. Grill chicken or pork cutlets to put on top off the pasta. Have a side salad or roasted vegetables with garlic and olive oil. Broccoli, asparagus, and cauliflower are my favorite roasted vegetables. Also serve a fruit salad for dessert instead of sugary treats. It will still satisfy your sweet tooth without a lot of extra calories.
2. You could also try to have a comfort dinner but with a healthy twist. Serve turkey meatloaf instead of meatloaf made with greasy ground burger. Have a side dish of whole grain macaroni and cheese (made with low fat cheese and milk.) You could also serve baked sweet potatoes instead of the pasta. They are more nutritious than regular potatoes too. A canned vegetable such as peas or red beets is a good vegetable component.
3. One other idea would be to serve a meatless dinner which is the epitome of healthy for some people. Toss boiled ravioli or tortellini with butter, garlic, lemon-pepper seasoning, and parmesan cheese for a quick coating. You can mix in a little low fat cream cheese and milk for a creamy sauce that resembles alfredo without all the calories. Toss in some fresh spinach and diced tomatoes for your vegetable component. Broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower are all good choices as well. It's a one pot dinner that couldn't be easier to throw together. It's simple, uses normal ingredients, and everyone is sure to love it!
For your evening snacks, you can still have your favorite foods but try to make small changes that will cut back on some calories. Here are some examples:
chips/pretzels --> choose baked chips with low sodium (tortilla chips are really good) and whole grain pretzels
dips --> if they are cheese dips, make them with low fat ingredients; salsa or hummus makes a great dip too (consider a vegetable tray with low fat ranch dressing instead of chips and dip)
popcorn --> get the lightly buttered popcorn with low sodium; sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top to satisfy sweet tooth
candy --> choose gummy candy over chocolate as the calorie count is lower
brownies/cakes --> make dessert bars with fresh fruit instead such as apple crisp or strudel bites
- Hummus, veggie dip, salad, quinoa, tofu, fish, grilled chicken breast, etc. There really are TONS of options.
- Get a veggie tray/fruit tray and some granola & trail mix & all-fruit smoothies. Yum. I would also say veggie dogs but vegan buns are hard to find. There are some vegan breads out there however.
