Will stamina improve with exercise alone without diet changes?

This question is just hypothetical, however let's say you wanted to be able to run continuously for 30 mins. You could build up your running time for about 4 months to get to half an hour. However if your diet isn't ideal, will your stamina not improve? I was just thinking if an obese person started to exercise however not diet, despite not losing weight, would his fitness improve? Thanks!

How to Reduce Body Fat Without Losing Weight

Recommended Answer:

Of course endurance depends on diet because if you don't eat, you die. However, if a person has sufficient nutrition regardless of what food it comes from or the total daily caloric value, they will be able to increase their endurance. It's quite common for an overweight person to start jogging with the intent of burning fat only to find that they improved their endurance while they lost fat.Good luck and good health!!♠

  • Drinking two cups of water before eating makes you lose 12 pound in 4 months
  • Just cut out salts and sugars. Stick to fruits and vegteables. Also eat 5-6 SMALL meals a day it keeps your metabolism going resulting in fat burning. Drink at least 7-8 glasses of water a day, if you can drink 3-4 glasses of green tea a day. Do NOT starve yourself. Also don't eat past 6 or 7pm. Lastly keep working out hard! I suggest jumping jacks, bicycle situps, situps, pushups, planks, burpees, lunges, leg lifts, squats, wall sits, running, oblique twists, donkey kicks, crunches, and lastly mountain climbers you only have to do a little. Hope this helps! :)
  • At 17, I would not recommend anything hardcore especially not while school is in progress. For starters, eat a lot more veggies and drink a lot more water. Remove any empty calorie foods from your diet like candy or pop, and remove foods with high fructose corn syrup. You'd be surprised how many "healthy" things have that. Even most cereals have this so beware. It will make you store more fat! Eat low-sugar foods that make you feel fuller longer like brown rice, beans, oatmeal, veggies. If you can't access these foods, don't worry too much! Just try to avoid anything high in sugar. Try to walk more often, preferably 2-5 miles per day. You can run instead but duration is more important than intensity for calorie expenditure. I'd aim for reducing calories by about 500 per day. You will burn plenty more on top by walking a lot. Doing anything high intensity can help but the drawback is it makes you more hungry or tired (if you don't eat to compensate). I would do high intensity stuff like workouts every once in a while but it's not necessary at first when you have 50 lbs to lose.
  • give up soda and junk food

How To Lose Weight Fast and Safely

So many people (especially on this site in this category) are under the impression that all you have to do is exercise like crazy at the gym to lose weight -- NOT TRUE AT ALL. I have lost 85 pounds (going from 220 to 135) with hardly exercising until recently.

It is truly all about diet. The exercise just makes it EASIER to lose if you have a difficult time keeping your caloric intake in check. Figure out your BMR, calculate in your daily activity level, then drop that number by 500-1000 calories to lose weight. It should be around 1200-1500 calories a day.

Count your calories diligently using a tracker (like MyFitness Pal) and switch to low calorie foods. Thing egg whites instead of whole eggs, sugar free maple syrup instead of regular, an americano instead of a latte, mustard instead of mayo, low calorie bread instead of rolls, fat free dressing instead of regular. You get the picture.

There aren''t any foods you have to "stay away from" to lose weight. You just have to count your calories!

  • Join a Zumba club or if your two embarrassed then get a Zumba DVD for you to do at home
  • Drinking water before, during, and after you eat a meal can give your stomach a sense of fullness. Drinking cold water will make your body use energy to heat your body up, making you use sugar into energy instead of fat. Stay away from drinking sodas because they have too much sugar in them. Even Coke Zero will not help because your body cannot tell between the substitute of sugars they use from actual sugar. Avoid sweets and things with corn syrup in them, because if you are not going to run, the sugar will turn into fat instead of energy to be burned. Donuts, hamburgers, and french fries should be avoided completely, unless you made them without the use of oils.
  • Eat better. I have not run a foot and lost 30 pounds in past 2 months.
  • Try going on a raw food diet for a month! :) Buy a calendar (to get you started) and everyday you stick to your diet (which should be everyday) cross it off with an X! Once you''ve completed to diet look in the mirror and check if you see a difference (which you will).

Besides the diet, drink LOTS of water. From 6-8 glasses a day :) just don''t over drink if you feel sick hahaha :)

And get the niketraining app! It''s free, tracks your progress and minutes, and requires no running.

Good luck!! Answer my latest question?(:
  • Avoid processed foods, fast foods, fried foods, anything in these categories; You would be surprised how much you lose and how your cravings for fast food diminish after a while. Also, stay away from sugary drinks. Just limit it, im not saying go pro-water, but look at the nutritional value and if one serving for a 12 or 24 oz bottle has 24g of sugar then you may want to avoid that drink. Personally, I drink milk, for the nutrition, coconut water, all natural drink sugar free (yet still tastes sweet), and water. Although I can''t lie, I drink hot chocolate often. Adding a "bad" food to your diet only helps if eaten in moderation, it helps with craving control.

P.s. It''s usually the drinks that kill a diet, so especially watch out for the content of a drink.

    Hope this helps
  • French fries, potato chips, cake cookies, cinnamon rolls, donuts, pizza, ice cream. I could go on and on but you know what junk foods are, just don''t eat them. Eat mostly vegetables, a lot less meat. Add fruits to satisfy your sweet tooth.

You have to run a long way to make up for all the junk food. It''s easier just to eat better and run less.

I am 20, I rarely ever have periods and now I have anxiety (among other problems). Help?

Ok, so I will explain to you guys what are my problems so that maybe someone will know what is wrong with me.
The first and most important problem that I have is almost never having period. The first time I had was at 15 and after a year of no periods, I decided to go to doctor. I discovered I had ovarian cysts and in order for them to disappear and have regular periods, I need to take birth-control pills. So, that’s what I did for like 2 years, but I decided to stop because from my research, pills have many many side effects. I went again to the doctor, found out I do not have ovarian cysts anymore, but I couldn’t have a period without taking pills. I did a lot of blood tests, went to different doctors and they all told me something else…One of them was sure I had hypothyroidism, another one said I am hypoglycemic. I was so fed up with doctors and blood tests and that’s why I kinda stop doing anything in order to be a ‘normal’ girl. Now, I am 20, last time I got my period (with pills) was in October and it lasted 3 days.
The symptoms I have, probably because of this, are: insomnia, for almost 4 years (falling asleep at 6 am every night, restless legs syndrome), hoarse voice, not exactly skinny but not fat either, size 12 UK, 5’9 tall (gained weight when I was on pills, which makes sense but managed to lose all the weight I gained in 2 months). Now, I don’t know why but I have started having anxiety problems…which are the worse. I’m not the type of girl who is emotional, likes to keep all of her problems to herself, but lately I am feeling sad. And it may sound superficial, but I have always been the happy type of person and I hadn’t understand why are there so many people having anxiety and panic attacks.
Another weird thing is that I NEVER cry. I just can’t, especially in front of other people even though I want to. I feel like I want to scream as loud as I can but something is holding me back. And I keep telling to myself that I am a strong person, because I have always been one, but it is so hard now...
That’s why I want to know if these problems, especially the depressing, anxiety and insomnia ones, are somewhat related to the fact that I don’t have a period.
Please help! x

There are a number of questions and ideas I have for you, which you can decide if you want to pursue them or not. I am not a professional of any sort, just a regular person with problems too!

As you mentioned in the last sentence, ''the depressing, anxiety and insomnia ones, are somewhat related to the fact that I don’t have a period.'' I agree with you. Since 15 years old, when your body was suppose to change, something prevented that from happening properly. Now 5 years later, things may be just overwhelming you emotionally. I think depression IS setting in, and all this stress causes panic and anxiety to come up too. But you should have hope!

Since you''re not the pill-kind-of person, try investing some time in other alternatives. First some easier ones you can do on your own. See my link below I found for assisting stress relief physically and mentally. Here''s just a small read.

When stress overwhelms your nervous system your body is flooded with chemicals that prepare you for “fight or flight”. While the stress response can be lifesaving in emergency situations where you need to act quickly, it wears your body down when constantly activated by the stresses of everyday life. The relaxation response puts the brakes on this heightened state of readiness and brings your body and mind back into a state of equilibrium.

This other link is to Homeopathy. Since you''ve had issues with a normal doctor, perhaps this could be something to look into. Another small clip from the Wikipedia and also a link to a general site for this science.

Homeopathy is a 200-year-old system of medicine used successfully by over 100 million people worldwide. It has a laudable and extensively-documented clinical record and there are literally hundreds of high-quality, peer-reviewed basic science, preclinical and clinical studies showing it works

Homeopaths generally begin with detailed examinations of their patients'' histories, including questions regarding their physical, mental and emotional states, their life circumstances and any physical or emotional illnesses. The homeopath then attempts to translate this information into a complex formula of mental and physical symptoms, including likes, dislikes, innate predispositions and even body type. From these symptoms, the homeopath chooses how to treat the patient. A compilation of reports of many homeopathic probings, supplemented with clinical data

As well, if you are the talking or social kind of person, try group therapy. They have them everywhere and a good group can give you a lot for very little cost.

If all else fails, which I''m sure it won''t, try again to see if your regular doctor can help when you use the word ''depression.'' Tell them what you already tried and that things didn''t work. If you don''t have a doctor go to a hospital and they have information and can assist as well.

Hopefully this information can be of use and help you, even a little bit would make you feel better. Sometimes even trying something can lift your spirits, knowing you have something to put into action or investigate.

Good luck!

  • your just stressing out about this, the important thing is that your healthy, my friend had the same thing as you, since she was a teeen she didnt have periods and needed birth control for along time, she had ovarian cyst too, maybe you have smething called polycystic ovary syndrom where you have irregaler periods or none att all, google the symptoms and see if you have similarities, if you think u have it after reading about it, please bring it up to your doctor and ask him if you might have that. good luck girl

If you''re ready to commit to a solid plan, look up Starting Strength workout plan or a good 5x5 routine to build a strong muscular base. For cardio, use that treadmill to do HIIT which is interval training; proven to retain muscle and its the best way to burn fat fast but its definitely not easy. Start gradually and you''ll see gains in a few weeks. If you want to throw off the fat first, start with Insanity to get a lean physique. Lifting doesnt directly make you skinnier but it boosts metabolism which helps with weight loss and the added muscle does even out the flab. Good luck. Don''t forget your diet is just as important as exercising. Don''t undereat thinking that you''ll lose fat because if anything, you might gain weight as your body will go into maintenance mode to compensate for not enough nutrients being taken in. Just eat ALOT of lean and healthy foods to see gains.

What''s the Quickest Way to Lose Weight? - In One Week

Recommended Answer:
If you want to put on weight, you should work out, to insure that you
put on muscle and not fat. Healthy weight gain, just like healthy
weight loss, takes time and requires a conscious effort to apply good
habits.
Recommended Ways to Gain Weight
Have meals with the right balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and the
right kinds of fat (such as unsaturated and monounsaturated fats,
olive oil, canola oil, pistachios, almonds and walnuts). Heinemann
suggests the following ratio: 60%-70% carbohydrates, 10%-15% protein,
and a small amount of fat.
Eat foods higher in calories, vitamins, and minerals, as opposed
to higher in fat or sugar. Pack more nutritious calories in each
serving. For example, you may add grated cooked eggs to mashed
potatoes, ground chicken to soups and gravies, cheese in casseroles,
eggs, and soups, and nonfat dried milk in soups, shakes, milk, and
mashed potatoes.
If you get too full too fast, try having more high-calorie foods or
slices of foods as opposed to consuming the whole thing (raisins
versus grapes, granola and Grape Nuts versus corn flakes, mango slices
versus the whole mango).
Limit drinking beverages to a half-hour before and after a
meal.
Drink mixed juices (apple/berry, peach/orange/banana as opposed to one
juice beverages) for a higher calorie intake. With moderation, you may
add in good fat sources to meals such as nuts, avocado, olives, and
fatty fish (salmon and mackerel).
Snack in between meals. Nuts, dried fruits, and yogurt
are good options, but it''s also important to find nutritious foods
that you will enjoy. Have a nutritious snack before bedtime, such as a
peanut butter sandwich.

  • drink milk
  • I would advise healthy and working out. To find out more information about nutrition recommendations, go to http://www.choosemyplate.gov . You don''t have to work out every day, but you should still exercise every day for about 60 minutes. Nicotine patches may help with the smoking.
  • Protien shakes if not combind with the right amount of exercise they can be very bad for you..
They well make you FAT not strong!
  • Got advanced bodybuilding, nutrition and training experience. make nutrition schedules, workout schedules, workout exercise routines, what supplements are good and not and how to dosage them etc. choose the right way you loose weight, get bigger muscles, get stronger, stay healthy etc

Does eating lots of fats help you gain weight?

15 years old, always been very underweight.

I want to gain some fat first, before I start trying to get muscle.

So I''m asking if eating lots of fats (like putting butter on lots of things, drinking full fat milk, eating lots of red meat) will help me achieve this? Will it actually help me gain more weight, or will it simply clog my arteries and give me cholesterol?

Thanks!
I''m a boy, just thought I''d clear that up!

Three Amazing Steps To Losing Weight

Recommended Answer:
If you are looking to gain weight, you can actually do both together. Also, the idea is to eat a high calorie diet made from carbohydrates rather than indulge in fatty food like you mentioned. I approve the idea about using full fat milk but would suggest limiting your red meat to less than 20g per day. The idea is also to get the right workout along with the proper sleep in order to see significant progress.

I would suggest eating a high calorie diet instead of one filled with fat is because your body only requires a certain amount of fat which you can possibly get from the excess calories from your carbohydrate. I also do not suggest so much protein as a fuel source as it leaves behind nitrates which can be put your kidneys and liver under unnecessary stress. I would suggest eating things like potatoes, biscuits, pasta, noodles, rice and bread in order to get the high calorie diet from carbohydrates. If fixing 6 meals up can be a problem due to the lack of time or if you are looking for something more convenient, I would suggest looking to drink 500ml of milk in between your meal for a total of 3 times a day. Increase the amount of milk you drink by 100ml for each serving every week if you realize that you do not gain weight after a week of effort.

The next thing to get right is definitely sleep even before exercise. This is because even if you have the best workout and you get improper rest or insufficient amount of it, chances are this will cause you to lose weight and fall sick. One particular fact most people do not get right is definitely quality. Quality sleep means you need to sleep and wake up all by yourself. This can be difficult but I will still encourage you to do it on the weekend if possible and sleep the scheduled amount of hours on the weekdays when you are busy.

The workout is the main trigger to help you gain weight. This is done by using the workout at http://gohforth.com which I have seen many of my clients used and see effective results. The result of gaining 1 pound every week is quite possible as this workout will help you to trigger major muscles and help with progressive weight gain with little to no down time.

  • It will be both, so don''t overdo it. Gradually put on weight by still keeping a balanced diet, but maybe making your portion sizes a little bigger.

    Good luck!
  • be careful.. too much can spike your cholestrol levels an also add belly fat

    just workout hard
have 1.5 grams of protein for each pound u weigh
an eat 20 x your body weight from calories

    that should be enough
  • no as long as it''s healthy fat and not saturated it shouldn''t give you artery problems. Nut butter is a good choice.
So is avocado. But don''t eat just fats, try to load up on carbs and protein too. You need a good balance. Clif bars
have a lot of carbs in them and if you don''t exercise you''ll probably gain some weight eating them. Adding bread to any meal will add calories. I don''t know about red meat but I''d research the health facts on that more becuase I''m not sure how healthy a lot of that is for a girl your age. I don''t think you have to worry about it too much, though.
  • Don''t put lots of butter on things. The others are fine though. Yes, it should help.
  • it dosen''t matter how you eat fat , it matter how you consume or use fat your. If you eat fatty food then satisfactory level is high . If you eat less fatty and spiced food then your satisfactory level low and you eat that thing more. Mean you can eat meat half kg. but you cant eat creamy butter cake 250 gm.
My think is that to gain weight you need to eat spicey meat. Alternate is high flame butter or ghee.
