Recommended Answer:

Yes, I'd say you're too thin.At the weight and height you are at the moment, your BMI is 16.3The range of healthy BMI is from 18.5 - 24.9 ... Making you very unhealthily underweight. This also means that you could weigh anywhere from 105 pounds to 140 pounds and still be healthy. You however, are too thin at the moment.

How can I still support my annorexic friend who lives in a different place?

I have a friend who started going through an eating disorder in high school. She never talked about it, and would lie and say she was on a "gluten free diet," and only eat healthy things at school (this was pre-Miley Cyrus incident). I fell for it because I never saw her skip a meal when we were out, she would order a salad or just bring along her Lima bean cassarole. Also, we were in tennis and started training harder, which I thought was amounting to the weight loss as well. This summer after our freshman year in college, she opened up to me about it (and I think I was the first person). I have heard it is delicate to talk to them about it, and she goes to another college than I do. How can I be supportive, but not further endanger the situation? She says she is seeing a councelor and is trying to stop.

Just try to communicate with her everyday - don't mention her disorder too much though. Start a conversation with 'How are you feeling?' just to let her know that you care. Then tell her a joke or a funny story about your day - don't treat her any differently. Maybe meet up every so often to go shopping or something. All you can do is just be there for her and make sure that she knows it. It's good that she's seeing a counsellor so you don't have the pressure of being the only one who knows. You're a good friend for caring so much.

Other Answers:

  • Just tell her that you're always there to listen, and that you'll help her in whatever way that you can. After you tell her this, don't talk about it unless she brings it up. You don't want to make her feel interrogated or uncomfortable, so just make it clear that you're trying to be as supportive as possible.

Going to the gym with goal being weight loss, but gaining weight?

Hey, I'm 15 years old and I just started going to the gym about 2 weeks ago with my goal being weight loss. I've been watching what I eat, my calorie intake. I've been doing cardio/muscle building in the gym, but In the past 2 weeks I noticed that I put up a few pounds.. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?Usually have 3 meals a day, nothing greasy, I cut back on everything sugaryI mostly just have some fruits and veggies, I've been drinking yogurt and eating feta cheese, also been eating brown bread.I go to the gym about 4 - 5 days a week, do 15 minutes of cardio and about 30 - 40 minutes of muscle training

How to Lose Weight in Your Cheeks

It is perfectly normal to increase weight with recent start of exercise regimes - particularly if you are:Still in puberty and growing. Are more consistently hydrated (you may have been dehydrated when less active, and this can be a 5-6 lb difference in weight even in a single day if the weather is hot and or you didn't drink enough consistently. With exercise your body will store more water and glucose within your muscles as energy supply for them, this can be a similar amount of difference too.You will also enlarge the muscle fibres and reduce the size of fat cells by using up energy and training your muscles. As muscle is denser than fat you may see a steady or slight increase in weight even as your size reduces and body tone improves.I'd recommend relying less on weight and BMI, both to monitor progress and as goals, and instead think in terms of tone, shape and fitness. For a rough guideline you can use waist:height and waist:hip ratios. Your waist size should ideally be below half your height, and your waist below your hip size (for men approximately 0.9:1 and for women 0.8:1 are close to the normal ranges for healthy normal weight adults). Many very fit and healthy athletes would be considered overweight or obese using weight and BMI estimates suitable for the sedentary 'general' population, and indeed once they retire they often do become noticeably 'comfy' even if they don't actually increase in weight at all.

Stop Excusing Yourself From Losing Weight and Lose Weight

Recommended Answer:
Hi,

Medically there''s little doubt that excess weight is responsible for or a contributor to a huge number of ailments - many deadly. That makes it important to keep your weight under control.

There''s only one way to lose weight - and that''s to take in less calories than you use. If you do that you WILL shed those unwanted pounds. You don''t even have to exercise, although a suitable exercise program will both help you drop your weight and provide other health benefits too.

But be careful. You must continue to eat the right foods if your health and vitality are not to suffer due to your nutritional requirements not being satisfied.

Eating too little will not help at all. Your body will go into “starvation mode”. In the first place it will certainly have an effect on your health more generally and secondly your metabolism will adjust and lay on every possible ounce of fat out of what you do eat. That’s in part why crash diets don’t work. As soon as you relent on the diet your changed metabolism keeps piling on the fat and you’re soon right back where you started!

There''s a good article that sets out the basics very clearly on www.fitnessweightwellness.com. There''s also a short email series - and there''s no charge for it.

Good luck.

  • 10 x your body weight from calories
    live from more vegetables
more salmon, chicken, fruits, whole wheat bread, nuts, eggs
  • How tall are you? 140 pounds doesn''t sound excessively heavy unless you are quite short.

I suspect you aren''t getting enough calories, so conversely to what you might expect your metabolism has probably just dropped its rate to compensate for not having enough calories coming in, especially with the workout on top. That will also probably leave you feeling tired and/or cold.

Rather than eating 1300 a day, try the fast diet where you eat even less 2-3 days a week, but normally the rest of the time. That helps to keep your metabolic rate up.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fast-Diet-Intermittent-Fasting-Healthy/dp/1780721676/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1359988448&sr=1-1

With the fast diet, your metabolism is fooled into staying high by the normal eating days (when you exercise most), but the weight comes off on the fasting days when women should eat just 500 calories and just 600 for men.
  • Although 1300 calories is far too low, you should have still lost some weight by eating that little every day. Either you''re not counting calories correctly or you have a medical condition. Go to your doctor and get your thyroid checked. If it turns out it isn''t your thyroid, you should raise your calories for a month or so to repair your damaged metabolism, you can''t lower calories any further.

Am I really supposed to eat 2,000 calories per day?

Most people say that you''re supposed to and according to my BMR and activity level I''m supposed to be eating 1,800 minimum. Honestly, I eat far below that. I don''t think I''ve gotten up to 2,000 calories more than once or twice in my life. On an average day, I probably eat 900-1,200 calories. I''m not anorexic and I''m not trying to lose weight. I just eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and we don''t own any high calorie foods. 2,000 calories sounds like a very large amount of food. Is that really what we need?

Fast Ways to Lose Weight - Do Such Methods Exist and Are They Effective Over the Long Term?

Recommended Answer:
No, you don''t need that. My BMI says that I need about 1200 calories daily, and that''s what you follow. If 2000 calories is too much for your body, then it''s too much, just like it''s too little for others. Eat what you feel comfortable with.

  • I think that if you are obtaining all the necessary nutrients: carbs, protein, vitamins A-K, iron, etc, there isn''t anything wrong with trailing under the 2,000 calories.
    :)
  • One should have 1500 to 2000 calorie per day is good.Eating more of vegetables and fruits are nice,if you want to count your intake calories use this link.
