Is the phone app "MyFitnessPal" a good app to count my daily physical activities and calorie intakes?

I was looking for something that will help me reach my fitness goal which is weighing 240lbs (At the moment I weigh 354 and 19 years old, I know I'm overweight). My height is 6 feet, 2 inches. You see, I don't really know how to count the calories I eat. I'm in need of something that I'm able to record everything I do and eat throughout the day in order to lose the weight I want to lose. So, I really want to know is the app "MyFitnessPal" a good app to record what I do throughout the day?

So I''m seriously sick of being as fat as I am, I''m a roughly 260-270lb guy 6ft 18yo. I''ve recently gone vegan(2 months or so) in an attempt to lose weight and it''s going fine with only occasional relapses that are diminishing in frequency. I often find myself eating a bit more food however. Fruits don''t really fill me up and I can''t always get a good veggie/rice meal. I''ve just very recently in the last week started going to the gym but since im pretty fat I can''t reasonably do a treadmill so I''ve been doing mostly an elliptical for 30min to an hour and 30 on a bike if I skimped on the elliptical.

My main questions are how can I improve. I have a meal plan so I eat all meals through the college cafeteria so my variety is somewhat limited and I often find myself eating a bit more often. How can I fill myself a bit better I.e what kind of foods should I go for or stray from. Also I''ve heard both good and bad regarding ellipticals and their effectiveness. So what can I do around the gym to help me. I''ve been told light weights can be great but I''ve no idea what to do. Could someone give me a general workout guide/plan for a guy my size. And really just any tips in general I don''t have much idea of what I''m doing or how to go about it. I just got tired of my size and jumped into it and I''m not sure how to proceed.

elliptical is pretty good just depends how fast u go how long also elliptical always over estimates calories burned u burn 700 its.more like 550 but at ur weight u burn more calories so i wouldn''t worry about that , but id suk it up go on the treadmill mayb a slow speed but at a high incline for 45 minutes then elliptical for 30 minutes an 15/20 weight training ....

and buy a pedomater on days u dont hit the gym ...WALK aim to burn 350/400 calories ..

This is weird to talk about but it really bugs me because I don''t think this is normal. I''ll usually go once every 4-5 days or so and I don''t think its normal because I eat a good diet. I''ve had this problem since I was a teenager and there are times I''ve gone a 2-3 weeks without going. I eat a lot of fiber and take vitamins to try and be healthy but nothing seems to work for this problem. I figured before it was because I ate a lot of junk food but I''ve been dieting for a year (1800 calories a day) and lost nearly a hundred pounds (312-216) but I still have this constant constipation and it drives me crazy. Also a lot of times when I do go I have awful cramps and is generally a miserable and painful experience but I don''t have medical insurance so I don''t really know what''s wrong with me or what I''m doing wrong. 6 times a day (every 2-3 hours)

2 times a day:
-fist size amount of veggies
Once a day:
-1 tbs unsaturated oil
-drink 10 cups of water (not all at once though)
-have a multi vitamin
Then, the excersise:
-train with weights (no more that 45 mins a week)
-preform at least 30 mins of aerobic excersise 3 times a week
-take it easy on one day of the week.

  • Your always harder on yourself! I would do lots of ab workouts (sit up, crunches, planks, etc.) if you have some money to te spend go out (or order online) hip hop abs! It sounds dumb an everyone looks dumb doing it, but dang! I lost weight and got a flat stomach so quick!! Another thing I have been doing lately is an iPhone app called 0 to 5k (free version) it''s a running training, and tell you when and how long to run(and walk) (workouts are only 25-35 minutes long) and it really got me in shape for running! If you have an iPhone I would really try it!


    Btw: once you have abs remember not to stop working out!

Skinny...is a very silly, stupid negative word...skinny is another word for emaciated. So not cool. AS FOR YOUR BODY your 14 which means you are still growing so relax. However if you want to build your abs HIP HOP ABS, ZUMBA excercises (for abs). Go on youtube to see if you can watch them for free. Oh and your 14 wanting to wear clothes that don''t hide your body? Where are your parents? Your 14, enjoy being a kid....you can expose or "not hide" your body all you want when your an adult (18+). I was watching what I ate and exercising and I lost 25 pounds. I recently injured myself and I am not able to exercise. I will not be able to do so in a while. I have continued to eat the same way as before but i am not losing weight. I only lost a pound and a half in the last month.
