If I eat at most 2000 calories a day, and burn off 350 afterwards, how much weight would I lose in a month?

I'm 16, I weigh 240 lbs. I dont look nearly as fat as I should, but I'm planning on losing weight. So, today, I ate at most 2000 calories... and after my last meal I jogged for about 30 minutes. I did a calorie calculator, and it said I burned around 380 calories. Is that enough to lose weight if I do that for a month?

Recommended Answer:

If you are male... You would lose around 10lbs. (if you don't just sit and watch tv all day)Female... maybe 7 or 8lbs...Just did these calcs very fast using the average 16 year old - 240 lbs with an average activity level (other than the 350 cals burned)2000 is a bit high for someone dieting... I would suggest 1800 if you are a male and 1500 if you are female.

Other Answers:

  • No, you need to burn more then you consume to kick in the fat loss
  • It really depends on the speed of your metabolism, and also, your weight. The more you weigh, the more calories you need to consume to maintain that weight, and the more you'll burn doing physical activity. You might need to play around with daily calorie limits (influenced by your height and physical activity levels), but in order to lose weight, you'll need to burn more calories than you eat. Keep in mind that your body burns over a thousand calories on its own just by doing day-to-day functions. However, exercise is important too, so keep that up. Seeing a dietitian might also be a good idea
  • yess of coursetheres two things that you're doing that will make you lose weight, first of all you're eating less, reducing calories will always make you lose weight, and second you're exercising which is really good, for every 500 calories you burn thru exercise per day that means you lose 1 pound per week and you're pretty close to that, im guessing that combined you'll probably lose 8-10 lbs per month
  • Assuming you're 5'7 (Average height for 16 year old males) your BMR would be around 2,300 calories burned a day (doing nothing). If you ate 2,000 calories for the day then subtract the 380 you burned it would be about 1,620 calories for the day which is a 680 calorie deficit. If a pound is roughly about 3,500 calories you should be burning about 1.3lbs a week which would be about 5lbs a month. But realistically it all depends on what of those calories you are eating. I'd say keep the carbohydrates low (below 100) and eat only complex carbs (sweet potatoes, green vegatables, any wheat products).Just do a lot more cardio and eat healthy! =)
  • If we assume that you're 5,10' male, then you are very most likely obese, BMI 30+. If we assume that your net calories is around 1700 calories a day then in a month you will lose around 13lbs. 3 months 30lbs and 6 months around 55 lbs. Good luck!
