Is running 3 miles per day enough to lose weight and become cut?

So I have about 10-20 pounds I am trying to lose. I am also trying to become toned. Is running 3 miles per day 7 days a week enough to help me lose the weight I need to. Or should I be doing some other sort of cardio related exercise?

Recommended Answer:

3 miles a day, 7 days a week is a good way to lose some weight. But, your diet is just as important. If' you're stuffing your face with pizza and fast food every day, like I am sometimes guilty of, you're going to have to work much harder. Monitor your intake vs your output. For instance, if you're taking in 3,000 calories/day but only burning 2,500 calories/day, you're not going to lose any weight. Also, getting "cut" is going to take more than running. If' you're already muscular, losing the weight will certainly highlight that. But if you're all flabby, you need some sort of resistance workout to develop those muscles. Even body weight exercises will do this for you. Pushups, situps, dips, pullups, etc. Swimming is also a great exercise for strengthening, building muscle tone and getting in cardio. If you're going to give swimming a shot, start with 100m of each of the four main strokes... Freestyle, Butterfly, Breast and Backstroke. Mix it up a little. Swim one length with kicks and then the length back using only your upper body. It'll beat the piss out of you. But it'll also show results.

Other Answers:

  • I think it will do a good part. Keep up the work.
  • Never base your weight lose on distance. It matters on how long you actually jog. I would rather judge it on time rather than distance. If you want to lose weight, jog about 30-40 minutes a day. This doesn't mean that you have to go "all out" in that time, instead make sure that you actually jog them. I wouldn't recommend you jog everyday, you can get shin splints and you can hurt yourself. Losing weight isn't a sprint race. Diet is also important, cutting out soda alone, will make you lose weight.
  • that'll burn about 2100 calories a week. you have to burn 3500 more than you eat to lose one lb. you can't outrun your fork. so it is gonna depend on what you are eating. and for sure your core and upper body arent gonna get tones by running.
