How much fat is in one pound?

I know when you lose one pound of body weight, it consists of not just fat but also muscle tissue and other stuff. So my question is approximately how much of one pound is body fat? I'm guessing there are a lot of factors involved such as diet and exercise, but if anyone has an approximate answer or can offer some reliable resources, that would be a great help! Thank you in advance

Recommended Answer:

It impossible to answer your question. What is lost with fat and how much is lost depends on the individual and the circumstances. For example, obese people in early fat loss will dump a lot of water with the fat while thin people who are trying to lose essential fat will lose lean tissue along with the fat. There's no one answer to your question.Good luck and good health!!♠

  • A quick google search got me the figure for fat density of 0.9 kg/L (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adipose_tissue#Physical_properties)converting that to pounds/cubic inch gets you: about 0.0325 lb/in^3if you divide 1 pound by 0.0325 lb/in^3 you'll get 30.8 in^3, which is equal to half a liter, about a pint, or about the size of the average water bottleJust remember when you lose a pound of fat the loss will be spread throughout your entire body so you won't necessarily notice a difference.
