Would eating more help increase by metabolic rate and lose weight?

I ended up gaining about 10 pounds when I went to college, even though I was working out an hour everyday and eating under 1000 calories (not because I was trying to cut calories, but because I didn't like the food). I've lost 7 pounds since summer started, but now I've hit a bit of a plateau. Currently, I eat 1200-1300 calories a day and workout out for 45 minutes 6x a week. So, would increasing my calories help me past my plateau (and lets say I'm burning 500 calories a day by working out), how many calories should I eat? I just don't want to cut down too much again since that made me gain weight.

How to Fast and Lose Weight Safely

Recommended Answer:

You're at a HUGE deficit, you need to slowly eat more calories to try and repair your body. You won't lose weight eating that little bit of calories.I eat roughly 5-6 times a day and that helps me cut weight, along with watching my calorie intake. Exercise is very good, but you need to up your calorie intake. I would strive for at least 1700 calories a day.I suggest you adding roughly 100 calories or so to your diet each two weeks if you've been on the deficit for awhile. You need to fix your metabolism.

  • I've taken health classes with serious topics on dieting and exercising. If you don't eat enough, you won't lose weight! But, if you eat too much food you will gain weight. Not eating enough food will make your brain think that you are being starved. Then, it will try to store as much fat as possible because it thinks that you won't get any more food! That is a simple way to say it. You can eat the regular amount of calories that other people do (in fact, you should), but if you exerciseve, you can lose weight! Hope this helps :)
