Is it harmful to strength train when not doing cardio?

Aside from all the obvious hazards of neglecting cardiovascular exercise, would doing push-ups, crunches and dumbbell curls be potentially dangerous if you're not doing enough aerobic exercises?I usually sit around most of the day, I won't deny I'm too lazy to go out and go jogging everyday. I heard on a tangent from a friend that strength training without proper cardio could be potentially dangerous. Also, can anyone recommend any aerobic exercises that could be done at home without equipment? (For example jumping the rope without a rope)Just as a side note, I'm not interested in losing weight but in gaining, that's part of the reason I'm getting into trying to build muscle.

Hi Paul,I think it depends. What's important really is to have 'interval trainings'. You can find good tips around the net... you can always double check what you're doing and even find some discussions/forum sites that can help you along the way.For me, for better fitness & good results, "releasing the brakes" is most important.

  • No but you should do some cardio.
  • Lol I never do cardio when In my muscle gain phase, it's not harmful.
  • No, you'll just be really horrible at cardio. You want to make sure you warmup and work up a sweat before you workout, but that is the extent of it.
