How was my diet for today for weight loss?

I''m 5''9, 135 pound, and I would like to get down to 115-120. I have had:

Lunch:
-large organic fuji apple
-6oz container of blackberries

Dinner:
-Salad from Subway with:
Shredded lettuce, spinach, cucumber, tomato, olives AND
shredded cheese, fat free italian dressing.

I am also hoping to go to the gym tonight and do:
-30min on elliptical
-10min to 20min of jogging on track
-20min of walking on track

Any tips or suggestions for weight loss? I should add that I''m vegetarian (and try to be mostly vegan) so please don''t recommend any foods that don''t fall under that. Thank you!

I know it''s pointless to give you this advice, but you need far more calories than you''ve shown here, and especially more FAT and protein. There should not be any item in your diet that is labeled as "fat-free".

Let me explain what''s happening to you right now. Since you''ve eaten almost no protein today, and also no fat, your body is having to rely entirely in blood sugar for energy. Ideally you could be burning up some body fat, but very likely you''re eating just enough carbs to stimulate insulin release, and insulin shuts down fat-utilization cold.

Carbs turn into blood sugar very quickly, but you''re not eating NEARLY enough carbs to supply all the needed blood sugar. And you''re not eating any fat for the body to use in fat-burning. Get that? You''re not eating enough carbs to supply your blood sugar, but you ARE eating enough carbs to inhibit fat-burning. You''re doing just about precisely the wrong thing.

So, your body is cannibalizing protein that''s already inside of you to convert it into blood sugar (process is called gluconeogenesis). That protein is taken out of muscle and organs and tissue.

This cannibalization of protein is what actually kills people who die of starvation. It is not possible in any way for your body to convert carbs into protein to replace the tissues it robs from your lean mass -- it must come from diet, period -- and you''re eating almost no protein, so you''re wasting away.

You may or may not be losing any weight with your semi-starvation diet, because you''re liable to be screwing up your metabolism so that it shuts down energy expenditure as much as possible in subconscious ways.

  • Im not sure eggs are in your diet or not, but lettuce is a pointless food, just do straight spinach. Why do you want to be smaller?
