Why is 35mins of cardo better than 60mins?

Does anyone know why 35mins is sufficient to burn fat more than doing more? Is it because you can only burn a certain about of fat in one session?

I used to do 35mins of running and would lose 0.5KG/ 1.11lbs 3 times a week and my weight just dropped off but when I do more than 35mins I don't lose any more than 0.5KG/ 1.11lbs. Why is that?

Many thanks in advance!

Your suspicions are correct.

Here's how it works: Your first-tier energy stores that are burned up during exercise are your fat stores (glycogen). The problem is you burn them completely up after about 40 minutes of cardiovascular exercise. After you burn those stores out, your body starts burning muscle instead of fat.

This is why trainers and exercise physiologists tell you not to do more than 40 minutes of cardio at a time. It's also why they tell you to lift weights first if you're going to do strength training and cardio in the same workout -- if you burn out your first-tier energy stores by doing cardio, you will have a much less effective strength training workout.

  • You're working your heart harder in a faster period of time, the pulse is higher and therefore it does more good than 60 minutes
  • Afterburn, and metabolism in general, basically you can only train explosive until you start burning fat(it's literally the sign you need to take it easier, and your body always listens).

So exploding for 35 mins, means you can dig deeper, and train all-out, and have the effects of that last till far after your training.

If you train 60 mins, you will start 'pacing yourself' after about 30 mins, which means you're not training as efficiently, or as explosively anymore. So you're far less effective.
