I think you should join some clubs/sports to help make friends and to help gain confidence! I was like you in the eighth grade, but i went and joined soccer and theater and I connected with a lot of people! It really helped me find myself and find some amazing friends!

  • Hey sweetheart(:So making friends , all you need to do is have a beautiful personality . Just be nice to people , and they will be nice back . Just try and make conversation with them . And about losing weight , just go to your docter and make a plan with him/her . Healthy diet and excericiseing is the main key . Don't stave yourself . Well , Im sorry that's not much but , I hope everything goes well hun(: xxTaylor <3
  • Ok firstly, I totally get where you are coming from. I too had troubles making friends before but just this summer I went on vacation and there my way of making friends changed. I was with a friend on vacation and she is super outgoing and I have always wondered how she made friends so easily and that day I got to see it in person, she just came up to a group of guys that were talking about our home town and said oh you live there too? and then they just started talking then I came into the conversation and just started talking and asking questions and by the end of the trip we were all friends and now we are all friends on facebook so we can keep in touch. The point of this story is when people say to make friends just approach people they aren't kidding, it actually works! And asking people questions works really well as soon as you made the first move, don't make it sound like an interview just casually ask questions. And it wasn't just a one time thing either, today I started volleyball lessons and I started talking to a few girls and now I feel like I can approach them. To recap this relates to you because you can become more outgoing, your inspirational quote in relation to talking to people should be "just do it" because if you over think this you will end up not saying anything and that you will regret.Another tip is just be open to new people, if they seem shy invite them to sit with you at lunch, if they can't find their classroom help them find it, if they seem like they need someone to talk to, TALK to them!!As for you worrying about your weight, stop! How you look should have no effect on those who want to be your friend, however, if loosing weight will make you feel more confident I would suggest asking a very honest person (could be your mom, grandma, aunt, etc) about whether they think you HONESTLY need to loose weight, if they say yes then ask your parents about joining a sports class or joining a gym and eating decently healthy, this doesn't mean eating all healthy all the time it means limiting the portions of those not so healthy foods. If whoever you asked says no you do not need to loose weight listen to them and every time the thought pops into your head just tune it out with happy, positive thoughts. Also remember you ARE NOT ALONE I am sure any family member would be happy to talk with you about anything you need to talk about including your weight. This advice is coming from someone who also thinks that they aren't the skinniest, prettiest person in the garden but now everyday I am trying to own the way I look right now.Hope I helped and keep your head up and be confident because you are great and I am sure there will be people at your school who will see what i see too :)

For weight loss, dieting is more effective than exercise.Reducing your intake of junk sugar will help as in items 22 and 106 in http://www.rheumatic.org/sugar.htmThe natural sugars in fruits are OK as they are metabolised to glucose slowly due to their high fiber content. Fruits are low in calories and are not fattening. Most fruits are metabolism boosting foods and most vegetables as well and that helps for weight loss.

How did I gain 6 pounds in one week?

Last Saturday(I weight myself at the same time every day) I weighed 135. Today I weighed in at 141lbs. I recently started lifting last week but I know that there's no way I added 6 pounds of muscle in 1 week. I also know there's no way I added 6 pounds of fat by going over my calorie limits by 21,000 calories. What could this sudden gain in weight be. If it helps I'm an 18 year old male, 5'4" tall and went from 135lbs(last week) to 141lbs. this week. Any help?

Because weight measurement is actually dependent on a lot of things other than fluctuations in body fat.I'd say the biggest error is changes in water content. However, how much you ate that day, depending onthe time of day is enough to change a few lbs in ONE day. It may very well be possible that the scale reads an increase of 6 lbs and you may have actually lost body fat in that time.Unless you can accurately measure body fat % and body weight by totally controlling all these variables I wouldn't read too much into this. You probably can get more information by pinching around your belly and looking in the mirror as to how you're fitness is doing.

  • I'm not a doctor, but I think 21,000 more calories could do it
  • A mixture of maybe you wore more clothing, had a full stomach, hadn't pooped in ages, just drunk lots of water, gained muscle.. grew taller?
  • Knocked up?
  • When you weigh yourself in the morning that is your actual weight. When ou weigh ourself in the afternoon or at night youll weigh a good 3 to 4 poinds heavier if you eat and take mass gainer. If our looking to be healthy about it, eat 4 to 5k calories a day, so 4 to 5 times a day. Strictly chckens, nuts and sweet potatoes. If your looking to take the not permanent, more expensive, quick way get some mass gainer and destroy your stomach and kidneys. In my opinion creatine and pre workouts are ok, but mass gainers are expensive fake food. If i was gonna be unhealthy about it i woul just juice instead of taking mass gainer. Hope that helped :)
  • you might have grown taller suddenly or muscle might have stimulated to grow quickly.or there is one more thinggo look at yourself in the mirror if you are muscluar that means you have built muscle.or if you are looking fat, that means you have added fat.
  • I'm pretty sure you mean 2,100 calories. Much of the weight is likely to be water.

Why is it virtually impossible for fat people to lose significant amount of weight long term?

I've read a study which proves that only around 0,2% of people who start a diet manage to lose more than 10% of their original weight and keep it that way for longer than 5 years. All others gain it back or fail to lose any weight at all. Can anyone offer a scientific explanation?

It's certainly true that a temporary diet is doomed to fail, but it goes much deeper than that. One reason is that someone with a tendency to eat so wrong that they gain a lot of weight, will always have trouble breaking that tendency ... because that's how they've learned to eat. But even people who permanently change habits have great difficulty, because being significantly overweight for a period of many years truly breaks your metabolism. People get to a point where they simply cannot lose weight even on very low calorie diets .... or the can for a time, but then the weight loss stops and they regain weight even while still eating very low calorie. And, if they eat any decent amount of food at all they can regain weight astonishingly fast. I've read of people who've regained 100 lbs in a matter of months. Hardly seems physically possible. That said, the numbers you quote are probably misleading. Considering that skinny teenaged girls constantly go on diets again and again, that really skews the statistics. There definitely ARE people who permanently keep off big-time weight loss. But they definitely have to continue focusing on living a lifestyle that worked for them and not going back to just eating freely. All in all no one can give you a simple scientific explanation, because scientists do not understand this very well. And nutrition is rife with junk science which muddies all issues about nutrition.

  • Easy to explain, No diets work, it has to be a total life style change. You can't stop eating for a period loose weight and go back to your old habits. You have to find a solution that will work for you. This is not easy because your eating habits have to change and most people started eating like they do when small. So talk to yourself and figure out if you can change, because if you can't, no sense in putting yourself through the torture and fail. It takes a strong person to make this change.
  • Lippie is right, but you should also consider some other factors.A study cannot 'prove' anything. The one that you have read 'demonstrates' an effect. A different study might 'demonstrate' that important elements of the first one were incorrect. And the fact that a study looking at diets has found that they don't work long-term doesn't 'demonstrate' that long-term weight-loss is impossible; it only shows that 'dieting' cannot achieve it.

Cleaning your food will help you so much, as you stick to a healthy diet.Your diet should be distributed in these categories ( 40% Protein, 50% Carbs and 10% Good Fats ), you should eliminate all the bad fats, reduce the sugar to minimum levels and focus on the complex carbs.Try to find how much calories that you need maintain your body and reduce them by 300, this way will enforce your body to go and melt those fat stores for energy.http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htmAlso you need to raise your activity level ( if you need faster results ), exercises will increase your needed calories, so your body will burn more ( of those fat stores ), even walking, swimming or rope jumping will have great effect in your case, and you could add some specific exercises to tone your thighs:http://www.fatreductionpro.com/ultimate-guide-to-lose-thigh-fat-fast
