My body is thicker now sense before I started working out?

I am 22 years old - 5'8 and about 158lbs. I have been working out recently for an hour and a half a day - 5 days a week - for 3 weeks now. I am not noticing myself getting smaller, (which is kinda my goal) but instead I feel like I am becoming thicker. My legs are harder, but wider. I do a full hour of cardio and a half hour of weights. I am not cutting back on the amount of food I eat but am slowly changing what I eat. I have been juicing fresh organic vegetables and fruits and I have been trying to eat as clean as I can, with the exception of a burger here and there. My question is: Is it normal for people who are just beginning to work out to "swell" ? If I continue, will they eventually tighten ? Any advise or comments on what I could do differently? Any info is much appreciated. Thank you

How to Lose Weight With a Six Week Program

Recommended Answer:

Don't listen to miguelzunga unless you want to get very sick. There is nothing wrong with having a burger, you need protein and carbs and fat, as long as you aren't loading it up with bacon and four cheeses and gooey sauces and a side of large fries. And ODing on water does nothing for you, that's a factoid anorexics on Y!A like to trot out, water is good for your body, but it has nothing to do with weight loss.Muscle weighs more than fat, and is tighter/harder and more compact, so while you "feel" thicker, even you are noticing you are getting smaller. Don't psyche yourself into body dysmorphia, you're doing everything exactly right, just keep it up.

  • Well as you said a burger here and there lol maybe you're not being fully strict on your diet. If you really want to lose weight you should do this : 1. eat nothing BUT vegetables NOT FRUITS because the sugar can hold you back 2: drink nothing but water 3. Exercise That's all you need to slim down and I promise you that you'll lose weight .. Faster way to lose fat is to jump rope it burns more calories in an hour then running.
  • Clean out your diet. Don't fully limit yourself because then you'll binge. Just be smart. Have a burger with no cheese or no condiments. Have egg whites, while wheat. And lots and lots of water.

Is it possible to join the Marines just to get in shape and lose weight?

I am kind of chubby and out of shape, and I feel I lack in terms of manliness,so I want to enlist in the Marines, and go through basic training, just to get in shape and lose weightand become manlier, then I want to leave again. I do not want to hang around long enoughto be sent into active duty or combat. Will that be possible?Or will I be forced to sign a contract and serve for a few years aftercompleting training?

How to Burn Body Fat and Lose Weight

I hope this is a troll post because if anyone thinks that's a possible has no clue about the military. How does it benefit the Marines to send you to basic training, house you, feed you to be a personal trainer?Join a gym and sign up to take advantage of the personal trainers. Yes you sign a contract. It costs MONEY to train someone they aren't gonna send you to the Marines so you can live it up and play Marine and then leave without you providing a service to the Corps. It's the same reason if someone gets accepted to a military university/academy. In order for providing a free education you are REQUIRED to serve in the military to reimburse he government for all the money they invested in you. They don't do it out of the goodness of their heart.

Other Answers:

  • No
  • Sure, why not
  • No you would have to fit to get in, although you can drop out during training but it seems a very drastic way to get fit, think about what motivates you to get fit and go from there.
  • Nah dude you can't just get in shape and leave 1. You have to be in shape going into the Marines 2. If you enlist, at least have the balls to stick it out3. Get in shape on your own!
  • M-A-R-I-N-E C-O-R-P-S does not spell "Weight Loss Club"Try Jenny Craig
  • You sign a contract before basic and indiv training.
  • Um, no. That would be called deserting. Why would you join the Marines "Just to get in shape and lose weight?" You could join the YMCA with the same results.
  • You CANNOT join the Marines just to shape up. You WILL have to fight for our country if you sign a contract with Uncle Sam. Join a gym if you do not want to enlist in the armed forces. The military is not there just so people can get into shape. You will have to do military combat in the Marines if you enlist. Once you sign, you are committed.
  • There is no guarantee, but if you are willing to risk a Court Martial or Other Than Honorable Administrative Discharge, then you can plan on doing some sort of 'crime'. Back in the day, you could 'out' yourself as gay and it could work - that avenue is no longer open to you.But you also risk just being punished and then sent off to war, where, if your head isn't in it, is an even more dangerous place than it otherwise would be.Isn't it easier to just get up off the couch and start running or riding a bike or swimming or any combination of some or all of those - and watch what you eat - rather than being a load on society and risk things you probably don't want to risk?
  • Yes, but there are other adverse ramifications.
  • Dude. P90X works great. It requires a small amount of discipline. The Marine Corps demands a ton of it.
  • Come on brother, you join our military to serve our country. you don't join it to lose weight than abolish your brothers/sisters. Look, i used to be fat too, my freshman year i weighed 210. Alot of stress at that time, but what works is getting off our ass and doing work brother. Start will jogging, (shit i remember when i couldn't jog for a minute straight), do tons of body exercises and go from there. your fine, just dont give up.
  • Just starting a workout program seems like the less extreme option, yes?
  • u sound like a lily livered sissy boyjust get the liposuction and be done with, fatty
  • Try a new user name, "Der Dumkopf" would be more apt.
  • NO!

How many calories should a sedentary teenage girl take in daily to lose weight?

5'4"12216 years oldI have been trying to get back down to my healthier weight of 112 but havent been successful for a long time. Have you ever just felt completely defeated at times because something so seemingly simple ends up seeming impossible? That's what it keeps feeling like. And I fall to the wrong solutions too often: eating too few calories, fasting, eating just right then getting impatient and eating too few, then bingeing. It's very unhealthy. So, does anyone have the answer for my title question? I am sick of wasting away all this effort and just want to be healthy. Thanks!Oh and I am a vegan, am too busy with yearbook and other school stuff to want to squeeze in exercise. It is what it is, some people aren't a lick interested in working out. I'm a low key, chill kind of person. I am always reading, doing my artwork, doing yearbook (ALWAYS busy with that) and other IB school stuff, so relaxation is my best friend- and working out has always been out of the question. So, calorie wise --whats the intake to lose weight?---sorry, I'm very wordy---

How to Lose Weight Without Diet Pills

Recommended Answer:

Personally I think your 122 is pretty normal. If you want to get it down, you really have to just diet properly and start exercising. And I don't mean exercising for 1 month to lose weight and then never doing it again... this would be pointless wouldn't it? Permanent lifestyle changes are important.Eat only lean white meats and green veggies. You can have a few fruits during the day too, that's completely ok. Do no drink anything fattier than skim milk. No orange juice, soda, etc. Only water during the day.You don't mention exercise at all, so like i said before; start exercising. Many young girls do not have this concept of working out and exercising and they end up having to starve themselves or go on crazy low calorie diets to lose weight. This isn't the healthy way to do it. Go jogging, ride a bicycle, or walk on the treadmill/elliptical for 30 mins a day. You will def. get down to 112.Good luck! Work hard, be dedicated and make it your goal. Forget facebook, twitter, all that useless garbage and think about your own being. Focus on your goals and make them happen step by step, day by day.

  • the recommended amount of calories that a person should consume in a day is 3500 calories and 30 grams of fat. In order to lose weight you'll need to cut back to 1500 calories and 15 grams of fat. this is the safest reduction in calorie and fat grams that's recommended. Another great way to lose some pounds is to cut back on the amount of sugar you eat everyday. By not drinking sodas you could ten pounds in a year easily.
  • Omg I'm 16 too! I have lost 40 pounds last year so I know what you're going through. I think you should consume 1200 calories a day to lose weight. You should also divide your meals throughout the day and watch your portion size. Good luck!

  • You don''t need to go to the gym to lose weight. There''s fitness videos, running/jogging, jumping rope etc. I lost 55 lbs and never step foot in a gym. I do cardio and strength train in my own living room.

Figure out how many calories you need daily to maintain your current weight and then subtract 500 cals. That''s the amount you should eat to lose weight.
  • Ok now I don''t want to be a pain but poor is an attitide and broke is just for a while.

Will I lose weight by having two salads a day? (IMPORTANT)?

Will I lose weight by only eating two salads a day?
hello! I''m 14, almost 15. Will I lose weight by only eating two salads a day? (6 leafs lettuce, 1 tomato&1 can of clean tuna, no oil) I don''t exercise at all. I weight 200ibs, 90 kg. I doesn''t look like I weigh so much though. Please don''t tell me I should exercise because I know I should but I never get round to it. Also, will I have excess skin? My mother says no, as I have a lot of elasticity as I''m young, ans will my nails grow even though and my hair? SORRY FOR SO MANY QUESTIONS, I NEED HELP, AS I''M YOUNG I HAVE NO IDEA. :3

10 Reasons to Lose Weight & Improve Your Weight Loss

Recommended Answer:
You can have lettuce and tomatoes more than 2times a day because it is healthy and barely any calories, but use a light dressing. Also, most people hate exercising so do it without actually going for a run. walk up the stairs instead of an elevator. walk your dog. stop sitting in front of the tv. etc

  • If thats all you eat then yes..
  • This is a horrible food strategy. Most of the weight you are going to lose will be muscle, which holds 70 percent water. The water weight loss will be the weight you see coming off but it will cost you in how you look. You will look ill, not healthy.
  • You need more variety so you get all the nutrients you need, including good fats that your brain and body both need. You want your diet to be something you can stick to for life for the most part ( your taste will change as you get older, you''ll like more foods) you''ll get sick of the same thing over and over as well. It''s extra important for you, because of your age, you are still developing hormonally, (becoming a woman) you don''t want to mess that up with an extreme diet. Most people hate exercise, because they don''t let themselves break into it, and they don''t keep it enjoyable.
The Most Important Thing You Must Understand is you need to keep your program ENJOYABLE! If your brain or body find it too painful, no matter how strongly your mind is committed to working the program, eventually, (usually less than 6 weeks) your brain will make you quit! It won''t tolerate pain.At the same time it''s so very important that you allow your body and brain time to adjust to your new training. From tendons being stretched to complicated metabolic issues, to learning proper form, pace and routines your brain and body need at least 6 weeks to line up to really get things going.
Don''t give much credit to the scale when first starting, it''s normal to retain more fluids, it''s your body''s way of being ready for the next workout. Don''t micro-manage your calories either. Sensible wholesome meals, the quality of the calories is more important than the quantity. Your diet should be ENJOYABLE too, and something you can develop and maintain as a habit.
Workout at your own pace, which in the beginning should be slower, focus more on how you move ( your form) as it''s important to how your body will shape up and that you don''t get injured. Just about any exercise is good and will work, walking, jogging, running, cycling but my favorite and number one choice for losing or gaining weight is weightlifting aka bodybuilding. If your a girl, don''t worry that you''ll get manly muscles, the average steriod-free female builds only a small amount of muscle each year. But that muscle is awesome! Because not only does it burn calories while your working and using them, and while they are repairing and replenishing themselves, but 24/ 7 they consume calories just to stay alive! Just try not to miss a single day of working out for the first 6 months without a real good reason, otherwise slacking off can become the habit. Other than taking your two scheduled days off per week. Rest is important, so get to bed at a decent time as well. Make sure you drink plenty of water everyday. Learn to drink water warm, so you can have it anytime/anywhere. Other than keeping it sensible and enjoyable, remember all the benefits you''ll get from exercising and a decent diet. You''ll sleep better, have better energy, breathing, moods, concentration, endurance, strength, self-confidence, and so much more. It''s really the closest thing to magical powers each human has, so don''t miss out! 45-60 minutes a day, 5 days a week is ideal, but by all means start with less if need be, again keeping it enjoyable is everything! Just start easy, give your body time to start providing you additional energy, keep learning more as you go, and before you know it, you''ll have the body you''ve always wanted, with the loads of extra benefits I pointed out.
