Acne is an embarrassing and burdensome problem to many and especially to teenagers. It is easy to feel that you don't have control over your breakouts. But the fact is, you do. I'm NOT going to recommend you to see your dermatologist. No. It is not always necessary. Natural remedies are more powerful too. Sometimes, all your body needs is the right nutritional balance and proper skin care. Here are some easy things you can start doing today to help you heal your acne. You should notice a difference in about 4 weeks. Start drinking Aloe Vera juice and try Aloe Vera Gel – to start with. Please do not expect any magical results with any of the treatments. Apply a honey mask to your face once or twice a week - Honey has antibacterial properties & so it is great for disinfecting and healing minor blemishes. It is also gentle on sensitive skin. Wash twice a day with acne soap - You should wash your face twice a day with a sulphur based soap designed for acne. Once when you first wake up in the morning and then, right before you go to bed at night. Be extremely gentle to your skin when washing - do not scrub or use any sort of rough cloth. Over washing your skin will actually stimulate your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, thus increasing your acne. Keep your hair off your face - If you have long hair or bangs, pull your hair off your face. Your hair contains oils as well, and will contribute to your breakouts. You'll also want to wash your hair everyday and after workouts. Take a potent multi-vitamin - Acne can be a sign that something is wrong on the inside. Your skin depends on nutrition. It is a vital organ that is usually neglected. If your body is not receiving the right nutrition, it will fight back. One common way it will rebel is to produce excessive sebum, clogging pores, and reducing the ability for your skin to heal and fight bacteria. Include chromium in your diet - Chromium is well known for weight loss diets. But it is also excellent for healing infections on the skin. Taking a chromium supplement once a day will help heal your pimples quickly and prevent future breakouts. Eat carrots for beta-carotene (Vitamin A) - Vitamin A strengthens the protective tissue of the skin and actually prevents acne. It helps reduce sebum production. This vitamin is essential for the maintenance and repair of the tissue which the skin and mucous membranes are made of. Vitamin A is also a powerful antioxidant needed to rid your body of toxins. Did you know that a deficiency in vitamin A can actually cause acne? Avoid wearing makeup - Leaving makeup products on your skin only contributes to clogging your pores, causing more pimples and blackheads. If you feel you must wear makeup, be sure it is water-based. Do not pick or squeeze your blackheads and pimples - As tempting as it may be, do not squeeze, scratch, rub or touch your pimples and blackheads. Do any of these actions, actually increases the sebum production. Plus, when you squeeze, you are actually rupturing the membranes below your skin, causing infection and sebum to spread underneath your skin. The result is more pimples. Wash your pillow case every other day - Your face lays on your pillow case every day. Your pillow case absorbs the oils from your skin and reapplies the dirt and oil, thus causing breakouts. Keep your sheets and pillow cases clean. Eat foods rich in zinc - Zinc is an antibacterial agent and a necessary element in the oil-producing glands of the skin. A diet low in zinc can actually cause acne breakouts. By far the most common teen-age skin disorder, acne usually begins at puberty, at a time when oil glands in the skin enlarge and increase the production of skin oil (sebum). This occurs as a result of rising hormones during adolescence. Ranging from simple pimples to angry boils, these unsightly blemishes that fall under the general heading of acne, will plague 9 out of 10 pubertal youngsters; an age when physical attractiveness becomes so important.Other Answers:

- Hi Amanda. I would strongly suggest one of the several "proactiv" knockoffs available. I've been fighting acne for quite a while and I use the nuetrogena system. I comes with 3 bottles. One is a big bottle of facewash. The kind where you get your face wet, use a little and lather it up all over your face. Generally you do this when showering. Then it has 2 smaller bottles of moisturizer. One is a "day lotion" with sunscreen. The other is the night lotion with a good dose of penziol peroxide which you can feel it tighten your face immediately. use as little of each as possible-a little goes a long way. The kit is available at walmart for 17-21.00. \THE DRILL: wash face in morning shower. Follow up with day moisturizer.Night time: wash face again and follow up with nighttime stuff right before bed. This keeps your face non-greasy for the 8+ hours you are asleep.PS Never use alcohol-based "astringents" as they can cause more breakouts as they are too harsh on your skin. You should always followup with a moisturizer after using the cleaning products or else your skin gets too dry/irritated.PPS: If you MUST pop a zit, spend the $5 or whatever and buy the proper tool. If you use your fingernails, you will seriously redden your face and make it look horrible plus add to the infection. There are several styles of blackhead removers/extractors -some have a little hole, most have a "loop" if wire you press against your skin and it pops the zit. This allows you to get tons of pressure to pop the zit without cutting your face to hell with your dirty fingernails. I followup popping a zit with rubbing alcohol to minimise infection.Rock on.
- If you're gonna pop anything on your face follow these steps:1. Press a hot towel on your face to open your pores to make it easier for the spot to pop2. Wash your hands thoroughly3. Use a CLEAN tool to carry out the deed, or even cotton buds4. TMI - try to avoid the pus touching anywhere on your face as it is highly infectious and can lead to more spots, instead wipe away5. Wash your face with a face wash designed for acne sufferers - one that contains 'salicylic acid;6. NOW, this tip, I wish someone told me before - after all these steps, apply a tiny dab of an anti-bactieral/antiseptic cream, such as Savlon. This stops the spot becoming infected/worse and can speed up healing.(I'M ONLY TELLING YOU THIS COS I WISH SOMEONE WAS THERE TO TELL ME. NO MATTER HOW OFTEN PEOPLE SAY DON'T SQUEEZE, LETS FACE IT - TEMPTATION CAN BE HARD TO RESIST, SO YOU MIGHT ASWELL DO IT A CLEAN WAY)Make sure you are drinking plenty of waterAlways, always, remove makeup before bed. Wipes isn't enough, you have to cleanse your face using a wash aswell. Use face masks weekly - mud masks are good to draw out the blackheadsUse a weekly gentle scrub aswell.Good brands for teenagers include clearasil, clean and clear.Change your pillow case often, and duvet sheets.Exercise daily - i've found sweating vigorously once a day helps in pushing all the toxins out of my skin.Vitamin E is good for skin.
- Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) face pads help keep acne away by scrubbing open clogged pores, oily residues and exfoliation. Feel a pimple coming just wet a pad, place it on the pimple and remove it when dry. Sit back and watch pimple disappear. Works on body acne too.Niacinamide pads also help reduce skin hyperpigmentation (acne scars).Try it.
