How Often Does a 4 WEEK OLD Kitten need to eat?

so about a week ago, my bf and I found a kitten that was dumped on a brick wall of a car wash by our apartments (we knew it was thrown up there, because it was too high and steep for a little malnourished kitten to get on). She was a mess! I mean covered so badly in fleas you could barely see her pretty fur, her left eye (that we thought she lost) ended up being clamped shut by mucous infection.so I took her to the vet and they told me that she was about 3-4 weeks old, so as of today, she is about 4-5 weeks old. After visiting the vet, we got eye drops and stuff so now she is perfectly healthy.when we first found her, she was strictly on kittens milk every 2-3 hours. but now she is getting BIG! she is gaining weight, so now her bones aren't sticking out, and she is just growing overall. She is now eating soft canned kittens food mushed up with some kittens milk. Here is the thing, both my bf and I work 8-5 every week day, so we have been trying to run home and feed her in the middle of the day, but this is getting extremely difficult because we don't exactly live that close to work. So what I am wondering is, can she start eating some dry kitten food? The vet gave us a bag of the Science Diet dry food for kittens and I was wondering if I could leave some of that in her crate before I leave every morning, so that when she is hungry at lunch time, she has something to eat and we don't have to rush over there??? she eats a big breakfast and she eats as soon as I get home after work. Please let me know if at about 4-5 weeks, can a kitten start eating dry food? Obviously we would be still feeding her the can food, but this would be just during the day. and I know I can't mix the dry food with milk and then leave it out all day, but what if I mixed it with some water? thanks

How to Lose Weight With a Six Week Program

Recommended Answer:

Your baby kitten starting cutting her baby teeth when she was around 2 weeks old. By the time she is 6 weeks old, she should have all her 26 baby teeth. IF she's 4-5 weeks old now, it's quite possible she has most, if not all, of her first set of little teeth. It's OK to leave some dry cat food in her bowl, for her to nibble during the day if she gets hungry while you're away. She will be able to eat it; you don't have to mix it with anything.

Other Answers:

  • At 4-6 weeks old kittens should be nursing on/off mom and supplimented with canned kitten food (chicken or lamb only) 2-3 x a day. The food should be mixed with KMR and warm water and mixed to a thick soup and served on a plate.Since there is no mom, increase the canned food to 4-5 x a day. Dry food (do NOT wet down) can be offered after 8 weeks old, NOT before. So I strongly suggest you either find someone to come in lunch time and put out another serviing of canned food or put out one or two plates of canned food and hope for the best.

  • the cat can eat dry food, just mix with very little milk
  • Yes - at 5 weeks they can eat kitten dry food. Feed 3 times a day and you'll be golden. I like to give them a mix of both wet & dry food. Royal canin is great!
  • Probably the mother was transporting her and got disturbed or she could have deliberately abandoned it if she was a young cat herself.Try the kitten on dried kitten food. If she manages it I don't see the harm in leaving it for her. Make sure and leave water too.Feral cats are toughies. I am currently feeding 4 kittens and they are very young, and have no problem eating ANYTHING, seem very healthy and like that I don't be around all day so leave the food out for them.Maybe you could rope in a friend or neighbour to check on her during the day.
