Can I lose weight and tone by riding an exercise bike?

I'm female, almost 22, 5'4", and 143lb/64kg. Around the end of last year I weighed 169lb/77kg, but I started eating gluten free and noticed the scale starting going down, not intentionally. But I haven't seen a physical change really. I'm also vegetarian, so I actually eat pretty healthy I think, but I've always been very lazy and not very active.I used to be an online student but now I'm attending classes ON campus so I'm finding 3 days a week I'm parking and walking about 15 minutes to class from where I park my car, so that's half an hour walking 3 days a week. I take my dog to the park almost every day and we walk around for maybe 10-15 minutes, depending on the day, if I'm in a rush etc. I also like to watch a lot of TV and movies... So I started thinking about getting an exercise bike at home to sit on and ride while watching TV rather than just sitting on the couch.. playing candy crush... Would this help actually lose more weight and tone up? Or what should I be doing? My problem area is the stomach, of course, so that's the biggest focus.Help!

  • Yes that is a great way to go. Using an exercise bicycle will make you burn calories which will make you loose weight and will tone your legs as well. But if you really want to tone your legs try some exercise. A great exercise to tone your legs and buttocks is the squat. good luck!!
  • An exercise bike would work, just make sure to change up your routine every couple of weeks so that your body doesn't get to used to the exercise. I'd highly recommend pilates and cardio for weight loss (blogilates.com and FitnessBlender on YouTube both have great, free programs). Also make sure to eat clean and drink tons of water.
  • Yes. This is a excellent way to workout.Have you thought about getting a trainer too?
