Hi Savana,Calculating the number of calories you need to lose weight is a relatively simple, three-step process.STEP 1Calculate your BMRYour estimated basal metabolic rate (BMR) is: 1,842 calories/daySTEP 2Multiply your current level of physical activity with your BMRFor example: we'll choose an activity factor of 1.55 (Moderately active lifestyle - if you do moderate exercise three to five days per week, common for most people) and multiply that by 1842 calories, giving us 2855 calories. THIS NUMBER IS YOUR TOTAL CALORIC NEEDS, OR ROUGHLY THE AMOUNT OF CALORIES THAT YOU NEED TO EAT EACH DAY TO MAINTAIN YOUR WEIGHT.STEP 3To lose weight, you need to eat less than this. How much less? That's the next question. In general, to lose 1 pound a week you need eat less 3500 calories a week, 3500 calories equals one pound of body weight (both protein and fat combined). This can be done by simply cutting out 500 extra calories a day for 7 days. (500 x 7 = 3500) However, THIS IS ONLY A THEORETICAL NUMBER, because not only is the 3500 calorie guideline arbitrary, but everyone has a different metabolism that burns calories at different rates. So, the answer to your question: you should eat approx. 2355 calories a day to lose 1 pound a week (assuming you have moderately active lifestyle).

  • Okay so, what you should do is eat 500 calories less than you're already eating. This way with the exercise you should lose atleast a pound a week. However, its important you don't eat under 1200 calories or else your body will go into starvation mode and possibly end up gaining. So say you eat 2000 right now, start eating 1500. If you don't know how much you're eating, eat normally for the next few days and count the calories at the end of the day. 1lb a week might sound a bit slow idk. But you have basically a whole year so you'll definitely get to your goal by next summer. Good luck:)
