How can I help my leopard gecko gain weight?

I got my leopard gecko in June 2012 when he was still a baby. He is a 1 year and 2 months old now, but he seems to still be skinny. His tail is skinny too. I feed him about 10 (small) mealworms every night, and he eats them all. I tried giving him live crickets (3) times, but he doesn't go after them, so it's just a waste of money. So, I tried giving him canned crickets and he started eating them for a few weeks, but then he stopped. I visited my local PetSmart and asked one of the workers if I should feed him one or two wax worms here and there but the guy told me that my gecko would probably get addicted to the wax worms, and he said they aren't healthy anyway.I'm just worried that my gecko isn't at the correct weight. Is there anything I can do?He looks like this:http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=33tl1fr&s=5

Waxworms can and will help. It's a matter of how many you feed. They really are junk food for geckos so absolutely no more than two every two days. That amount will probably not get him addicted. It's the people who get so happy feeding their geckos a yummy treat they give them 20 of them in a day who end up with addicted geckos.Aside from that he is a skinny little guy. He really should be fatter and full grown at this age... It could indicate a type of illness. Is he lethargic at all? Could be parasites.

  • Try feeding him small dubia roaches.waxworms isn't all that good for reptiles.it's more like a candy for them i read.i have a bearded dragon and feed mine dubia's.he loves them and plus dubia's are high in protein.mealworms are good for fat, crickets are good for leo's.that's what i call them leo's for short.he needs LIVE crickets etc.they are attracted to movement.you can also try medium superworms.but pinch their head before feeding to assure they can't bite.
