1000 calories a day for weight loss?

I'm 16 and weight about 150. I'm 5 foot 1. So technically my BMI says I am borderline obese, even though I really don't think I am... I don't know. But I do want to lose some weight but be healthy at the same time. Right now I have started eating around 900-1000 calories per day. Healthy food like fruit, salads, chicken, soup, smoothies, turkey... etc. I don't feel like I am eating too little but people say that is not enough. I am not really exercising at all right now but as soon as school starts I will be everyday (mid august), and I will probably then start eating 1200 calories. Do you think this is healthy? And if any of you have done this, did it help you lose weight? How soon will I be able to lose 40 pounds? Thank you!!

  • It depends how many calories you burn in a day, you really shouldn't eat more than you burn, if you wanna find out how many you burn just look it up its pretty easy to find
  • It's pretty impossible to lose 1000 calories in one day because, you can't burn calories. Your body needs calories for everything you do. But 1 pound of fat is 3,500 calories. Everyday if you do nothing, you lose about 115 calories. And if you start eating healthy stuff you earn calories not burn them. You need to lose your fat. The average teenager should eat 1,000 calories. Do some chores, everyday chores help you lose about 258 calories PER HOUR. If you want to lose weight you should try to not stress out so much. To get rid of some stress you can take a warm, hot bath. Add some bubbles, listen to music and just RELAX. It helps you lose some weight/cardio. Unless you want to work out at the gym, and go on a diet then call me. :)
  • I'm just going to tell you what happened to me when I was doing something similar to this. I went on a diet where I consumed between 800-1000 calories a day (all healthy meals, of course). I also did some light exercise like jumping jacks and russian twists. I actually lost half a stone in about 2-3 weeks, which yes, I was thrilled about, but there were consequences. I was incredibly faint - my bones just felt too heavy for me to walk, my head to heavy to carry, and I just felt like I couldn't be bothered with anything or anyone (I even found myself snapping at friends and family because I was so grouchy!) My face became incredibly pale, and I had huge rings under my eyes. Because of this, I started eating 1500 calories a day - I looked and felt healthier with more energy, and my mood became a lot happier!Hope this helps.
