My doctor put me on a gluten&lactose free diet and i am desperately craving bread and chocolate?

I feel so desperate i want gluten so much. I never realised how much gluten full food i ate before he put me on this diet. I would cheat and eat gluten but i know that''s not gonna help, so i''m trying really hard not to give in! I''m 16 years old and i started this diet 3 days ago and i feel deprived, since i also cannot have nuts, eggs or dairy so there''s literally nothing to eat besides fruits and veggies.

I hear you! I''ve been through it. I went on a dairy free, gluten free diet. It''s hard. I''m still pretty much gluten free and have a hard time finding foods to fill in for snacky foods.

1) Chocolate
Dark chocolate doesn''t and shouldn''t contain milk. This is the chocolate Europeans and Russians eat. I prefer it to milk chocolate which contains milk, as the name implies. You should be able to eat dark chocolate. Read the ingredients to make sure it''s dairy free before you buy it.

Just a word about chocolate cravings.... it can indicate you''re low in magnesium.

2) Gluten Free
Gluten free breads are expensive! I''ve learned to do my own gluten free baking. For snacks, rice crackers, puffed rice cakes or any rice product is gluten free. I''ve found gluten free pasta made from rice that''s a pretty good substitute. You should be able to find the pasta in a large supermarket with an organic section. The price in the supermarket isn''t too bad. It''ll stop the gluten cravings.

  • There are gluten free breads, and some of the more expensive dark chocolates are dairy free (though no milk chocolate will be). You could check the candy wrappers to see what is dairy free, and either buy gluten free bread, or look up a recipe and make your own.
  • Just remember that almost all chocolate on the market is produced with slave labor (generally child slave labor) and that a lot of bread products are mostly made of a substance that is basically paper and is entirely indigestible.
  • You can get Gluten-free bread at Whole Foods and Enjoy Life Foods chocolate, which is dairy-free (and soooo good) on their site.
