What's a good brand of dog food to feed?

I have 2 small breed dogs that are 1. I feed taste of the wild but its a bit on the fattening side (roasted fowl 18% fat) anyways my Pomeranian started gaining a little weight from this food I've noticed (he isn't huge but he has gained a little) they do get walked 1-4 miles a day about 5 days a week. Anyways I'm not interested In raw but just high quality kibbles. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, most grain free foods are high in fat, so they might not be the best choice for you little guys. The exception is Blue Buffalo. They have a grain free food called Wilderness and it comes in a weight management formula.. It has 10% fat. A better choice might be their 'Healthy Weight' Life Protection formula. It does have brown rice in it, but it has only 6% fat.

  • I feed Taste of the Wild - the one with the Salmon. My Icelandic Sheepdog and my Keeshond each get 1/2 C twice a day and are in excellent weight.
  • pedigree and alpo
  • Try Orijen Or Acana regionals. http://www.orijen.ca/A commercial raw is also a healthy Choice:Primal raw frozen grinds Vital essentials Ziwipeak http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2010/07/21/13-pet-foods-ranked-from-great-to-disastrous.aspx
  • You have quite a few of high quality kibble options, here are a few:1) Orijen - great food, high in protein, grain free, GMO free, locally sourced ingredients from free range animals, no recalls ever that I am aware of. This is what I feed my dogs. Many varieties - puppy, puppy large, adult, six fish, and regional red. 2) Acana Regionals - made by the same company as Orijen, grain-free, slightly lower but still high protein. Comes in Pacifica, Grassland, Ranchlands, and Wild Prairie. 3) Blue Buffalo Wilderness - easy to find, high protein, grain-free. Not sure where ingredient come from but an easy choice for the average dog owner. Lots of variety as well. 4) Wellness Core - easy to find, grain-free, high protein, GMO free. Some variety as well - puppy, adult, large breed adult, reduced fat, small breed, ocean, and wild game. I have heard this is lower cost than both Orijen and Blue Buffalo Wilderness. Other options are: Merrick Grain-Free, Natures Variety Instinct with Raw Boost, I and Love and You Nude Food, Go! Fit&Free. I would feed less, the fat really isn't that high when it comes to a high quality dog kibble.Wellness Core Wild Game is 16% fat. That might be an option, although I don't suggest anything under 15%. http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/product-details.aspx?pet=dog&pid=157&dm=grainfree#guaranteed-analysis
  • I feed my dogs Earthborn natural dog food. It's really expensive but it's all worth it.-healthy-not fattening-good for the fur-
  • http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/This is the best dog food advice I have read.Highly energetic dogs should be fed a high protein food like the one you are using for your little dogs. Too much protein for your dogs and this makes it hard on their liver and kidneys. I have 5 at home, all small. I was using Blue Buffalo Healthy Weight (lower fat content) for small breeds until my Dad's dog came to stay. Thinking she has a grain allergy and switched to Wellness Core Healthy Weight.
  • I feed my dog pedigree chum he eats it up as soon as i put it down and it don`t make him fat.
  • Keep feeding what you're feeding, BUT FEED LESS of it.....problem solved.
  • Personally, I feed my mom's shih tzus Nutro Ultra. It is all natural with no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. It also has no corn, wheat, or by-products. Ultra is also a holistic formula so it will have ingredients such as blueberries, cranberries and pomegranates which are high in antioxidants which are great for your dogs immune system. It also has chicken, lamb, and salmon which makes the food smell more, and helps dogs to love their food. My mom's dogs are crazy for it and they are extremely healthy. My mom is likes how Nutro makes all of their own foods in their own USA facilities and do over 600 quality checks each day. I hope that helps!GeoffreyPet Nutrition Specialist for The Nutro Company

How to become skinny but not bulky-muscular from exercising?

Hi!I'm female, five-foot-five, and 123 lbs. I want to lose weight (I have a little bit of fat here and there), and I know proper dieting/working out will do the job. What are some exercises I could do (Pilates, running, biking, etc.) that would kill off fat but not make me really muscular? My sister runs, and although she has nice, toned legs, she's not a twig. Plus, dieting tips? Thanks! :) Means the world. —SladeP.S. I would like to be as skinny as Astrid Berges-Frisbey, although I think she's naturally smaller than me.

What you are looking to do is definitely achievable, but will take dedication. If you don't want to put on any extra muscle, then what you're looking for is cardio workouts. Running is a good cardio workout, but like you said, will definitely beef up your leg muscles. If that isn't something you're looking for, then I do have a few other options.Get a jump rope. Use it everyday, starting out at like 5 minutes (doesn't sounds like much, but do 5 minutes straight and you'll be pretty winded) and build your way up to like 10-15 minutes each day. Jump rope is one of the best cardio (and fat burning) exercises you can do. I did boxing for a few years, and we all jumped rope to get in shape. Also do swimming. Its a good overall toning workout, won't make you bulky, and is easy on your joints. Combine this with your jumping rope, and you'll get toned in no time:).As far as diet is concerned, don't get too scrupulous and picky. Basically cut soda out of your diet completely, most sugary foods, and don't eat too much fatty foods like mayonnaise and cream cheese. Some is fine, just don't have two bagels from DD for breakfast ;). Also another trick is to try curbing your afternoon hunger with a veggie snack with maybe just a little more substance. One I like is celery sticks with peanut better. Yum!! Good source of protein, too. Or maybe an apple along with a piece of toast. I wouldn't get overly concerned with 'calorie counting' - also make sure you're drinking enough water to keep your body hydrated so it can burn fat. Hope that helps :).

Can I eat more fruit if I exercise?

Okay, so according to the internet (myfitnesspal :P) I should aim to have only 24g of sugar a day IF i don't workout. 24g of sugar is only like 2 fruits :|But since I do cardio 6x a week and pilates every other day, is it okay for me to eat more sugar from healthy sources, like fruit? What would be a good amount of (healthy) sugar for a 5'2 girl at a low-ish healthy weight? Thanks.

How to Lose Weight in Your Legs in a Week

If you don't have blood sugar problems (eg: diabetes) you don't need to concern yourself with sugar. What you do need to concern yourself with are your macronutrients which include carbs. All of your carbs will ultimately be digested and converted to sugar....glucose. It's that glucose that supports your activity and provides your body with energy. So, you'll get more sugar than you might think. What's important is how you get that glucose...what you eat. Complex carbs are generally better than simple sugar unless you have a reason for needing sugar such as running a marathon. Sugar is not bad and carbs are not bad. What is bad is consuming sugar without the nutrients that should accompany it. That's why it's better to get your sugar from an apple or orange than from a Coke or cupcake. Here's how you should eat.Whether you want to gain weight, lose weight, add muscle, or maintain, you should use the same diet. In other words, everyone should be eating essentially the same macro nutrients (carbs, fats, protein), micro nutrients (vitamins, minerals, fiber, etc.) barring special health or medical considerations because we all have essentially the same physiognomy and there is only one version of peak health. Here is how we should all eat according to the US National Institute of Health who are among the best health professionals in the world and the people doctors listens to in the US.OPTIMAL INTAKEEat varied, wholesome, and high quality foods such that your daily caloric intake is about equal to your daily caloric burn while keeping your macro nutrient ratios at about 55/25/20 (%calories from carbs/fats/protein) or whatever works for your goals. Go here for more about macros --> http://www.freedieting.com/tools/nutrient_calculator.htm . Only slight changes should be made in the macro nutrient ratios to accommodate the extreme demands of special activities such as extreme athletics or inactivity due to illness.Note: Here are the details in case you're interested:http://health.gov/dietaryguidelines/2010.asp http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/nutrition.htmlYOU MUST make your own food choices (no supplements without a doctor's recommendation) based on your location, culture, available foods, personal preferences, personal resources, food allergies, etc. However, the words "varied", "wholesome", and "high quality" are important. And, you should consume your food in 4-6 daily meals with healthy snacks between such that you're nourishing yourself every two hours when awake. VARIED means a variety of foods including fruits, dairy, meats, vegetables, grains, nuts, etc. WHOLESOME means as unprocessed, unrefined, nutritious as is practical.HIGH QUALITY means using the best ingredients, the least contaminants or fillers or unnecessary chemicals, etc.TRACKINGNutrient tracking is necessary to ensure you have the optimal caloric intake and macro nutrient balance. For most people, tracking is only required for fat loss because of the difficulty in cutting intake and nutrients while maintaining digestive and appetite satisfaction. However, tracking is an excellent exercise for noobs who are just learning how to eat right for the first time. Tracking makes it necessary to read labels, look up food nutrients, record data, plan meals and recipes, etc. And, as annoying as it may be to have to track, it is easier to do today than ever before with the help of website such as My Fitness Pal ---> http://www.myfitnesspal.com. Just saying you do "cardio" is meaningless. However, assuming you just do a nominal amount, it will not have a substantial effect on your sugar RDA. Like I said, if you eat right, you don't need to worry about sugar. Like all other nutrients, sugar can be good or bad. It all depends how much you get and how your get it.Good luck and good health!!♠
