Is it normal for a baby to spit up after every feeding?

My 3 week old seems to be spitting up after every feeding. He mainly breast feeds, sometimes I give him formula. Also how do you tell the difference between spit up and vomit? Far as I know he is gaining weight and when he spits up he doesn't seem in discomfort. I think I have hyperlactation too how can i slow down my supply? because at times he does get cranky while feeding and has all the signs.okay well what is an easy way to get him off the breast? because he sometimes clamps down. and I will try that, if he doesnt burp after so many pats i just stop and figure he doesnt have to burp. And I have been proping him more and noticed he isnt as irritable or spits up less.

Yes, this is normal for many babies. As it is not bothering him, it is largely a laundry problem; )As for the "hyperlactation" issue, you can try feeding on one side per feeding. The baby can always go to the other side if he's still hungry. I do not believe it is so important to interrupt the feeding to burp him, but I would continue to try burping after every feeding, and keeping him propped as well (as it seems to help).

Other Answers:

  • You are probably not burping him all the way just make sure when your feeding him to burp him every i think 15 minutes and to make sure he burps and you can prety much tell when hes done burping by how hard his stomach is ( its suppose to be easy to press on)
  • Well he may have colic try giving him half of formula and burp then the other half then burp.alao have a bobby pillow and keep him lifted.Vomiting is when he spit up more then he is spitting right now.Good luck
  • Yes, it can be normal. As long as he doesn't seem to be in pain, I wouldn't worry about it. Make sure you are burping him regularly. As for the hyper-lactation, that almost always resolves itself. You may want to try nursing in a reclined position, in the meantime.

How Does Counting Calories Help With Weight Loss?

Recommended Answer:

If you're doing a low carb diet properly you really won't need to snack. Make sure that you understand that low carb is high fat too. If you consume the right amount of fat you won't be hungry between meals and you'll lose weight faster.Nonetheless, you can have berries - including a few strawberries - but no apricots - they have a lot of sugar.

How can I come out of the "starvation period" without gaining back all the weight?

I have been on a 200 calories a day diet for the last 3 months, and I've lost quite a bit of weight. I actually feel good about myself for the first time in years. Anyways, how can I ease my way back into eating normally (like 1000 calories a day) so that the weight doesn't all come back? I understand at least a little bit of it will, but I don't want all of it back, or even half. Any tips, diets, or exercises will be greatly appreciated :) p.s. I'm a 15 year old girl

Congratulations on your weight loss! Here are some foods and workouts you can try:Eat Only Whole FoodsBecause you're giving your body what it recognizes as the cleanest fuel, it will digest and metabolize it more easily. If Mother Nature didn't make it, don't eat it. This means your carbs include whole grains, fruit, dairy, and starchy vegetables; proteins include beans, meat, cold water fish, poultry, and eggs; and healthy fats include nuts, seeds, and oils like canola, olive, and hemp.Get BitterDon't get all "Eww, bitter!" on me just yet. Another healthy way to lose pounds fast (or maintain ideal weight) is to simply eat one serving of bitter-tasting food, per meal, for three meals a day. These pound-shedders include kale, arugula, olives, almonds, miso, collard greens, mustard greens, radish, dandelion leaves, and radicchio. Mix them into an omelet, soup and other foods you like. Get creative!Make the Most of Your TimeWe've all heard that it's good to be as active as you can with everyday activities -- but what if you went even further and turned those already-helpful everyday activities into interval training? "Intervals keep your heart rate going for maximum burn, and studies show that it's much more effective than steady state cardio for fat burning," says Kristin McGee, celebrity yoga and fitness expert. Two ideas: 1. When brushing your teeth in the morning and before bed, do 50 squats both times, as quickly as you can without dribbling toothpaste all over your bunny slippers. Though brushing and squatting might take some practice, form here is key. "Sit back in an imaginary chair and be sure your knees don't go past your toes," McGee says. "Stand back up squeezing your glutes (bottom)." 2. When yapping on the phone, do heel raises. Stand with your feet in ballet first position, heels together and toes turned out, and rise to your toes and then lower down. Do this every time you get a call, or even if you find yourself stuck in a bank or grocery line. "Heel raises are discreet, and you can do them throughout the day, all day long." She suggests 20 reps, five times a day. This way, you can keep any pounds that want to creep back away for good! Hope this helps, there are more tips in the blog below. Good luck!

  • Its really unhealthy to have a diet such as this, But to bounce back into a normal diet is to eat small portions of healthy stuff. you might gain all the weight back on, that's why many people recommend just exercising and a healthy diet. Start a beginner workout and eat a balanced diet, you will gain a bit more weight, but you cant go back into the starvation period since it'll just be a vicious cycle. :)

I have a serious addiction, any suggestions?

I''m a 17 year old girl who weights about 205 pounds. I know for a fact that I am overweight. I have no motivation to lose weight, and although this sounds like the diary of most overweight teenagers, I feel as though I have a serious eating problem. I have been eating fast food every single day for the past two months and I''ve gained about 18 pounds. I don''t know how to stop. Just today, I order a Large pizza and ate it all by myself. My parents are not aware of the fact that I eat fast food every single day since they both work. I spent over $400 in fast food and I feel sick to my stomach, but I can''t get myself to stop. If there any suggestions, I am 100% open to them. Please don''t write any negative comments since that will ultimately trigger negative emotions.. Also thank you to everyone in advance!

What Do You Think The Fastest Way To Lose Weight Is?

Recommended Answer:
It''s not a simple question of willpower because if you had the willpower you wouldn''t be over eating.
I am disabled and lead a sedentary life. Weight gain was a constant problem. I went on a diet using the Nutrisystem plan. The plan isn''t important, but what I learned from that diet is. I only need to eat enough to feel full and I was drinking enough diet soda that I was over eating and not losing any weight. But, if I only ate some of the food and then finished the diet soda I was full and I didn''t have to eat any more. Now, I am losing weight and eating healthier. I never thought I could lose the weight because of my health and lack of will power. The key I found is not only how much I ate, but what I ate. I drink two diet sodas at dinner to give me that full feeling so I don''t feel hungry for the rest of the night. I used to have a lot of junk food at night, my favorite was ice cream. I would have a bowl every single night. Now I eat less fattening food because I fill up on diet soda.

What you should take away here is that it is not so much how much you eat, but what you eat. A calorie is a calorie, but if you eat a salad instead of a big mac then you have eaten less calories. If you drink a diet soda you gain only a few calories, but if you drink a regular soda you have a lot more. Switch to diet drinks. Get larger drinks and finish them before eating fast food. Have your mother stock up on diet drinks so you can drink them and when you go out you are less hungry. This will let you get a handle on your diet. Once you do that you can follow the tons of good advice that is out there to lose weight. The problem is that you are hungry, you have cravings and the more you try to ignore them the worse it gets. So fill up on diet soda before going out to get your fast food fix. You will then eat less fast food. Make sure you eat slow enough so that you can have time to feel full without over eating. Move on from there by substituting good foods for your fast foods. You can start with salads and ask about low calorie choices and buy them instead.

You really should talk with your parents and be honest about your problem. They are going to be your best support network here. It is embarrassing and you don''t want to tell them, but if they love you they will only want to help you. They might yell a bit or complain, but in the end they will want to help you and will help you make better diet decisions. Like having celery to snack on before you go out and get fast food. Use alternate lower calories foods instead of the high calorie fast foods, and increasing the amount of exercise you do.

You really need to stop going out to fast food joints entirely, but start with things that you can handle. Take small steps. Start by eating low calorie food prior to going out to a junk food place, work on eating lower calorie food at the fast food joint and then work your way into a better diet program. Ask your parents for help. If you don''t then you are going to eventually have to explain where all the money goes and why you are gaining so much weight. Take the leap and tell your parents and ask them for help. They are going to be your first and best support system.

I eat diet food most of the time and I try to stick to lower calorie options when I eat fast food. Sure, I have set backs sometimes, we all do, but I have been losing weight because of my choices and I don''t feel hungry or feel like I am depriving myself. Coke Zero has helped me a whole lot. So have the Smart Ones and Lean Cuisine TV dinners. I eat a lot of those and try to avoid the fattening food.

I found I was eating past the point of being full. When I slowed down and filled up on diet soda first I started to lose the weight. I lost about 20 lbs in 6 months. Sure that is a slow rate, but it is not healthy to lose a lot and then bounce back and gain more. I have been steadily losing weight. I am not going to bounce back to a higher weight. I don''t deprive myself and I don''t starve myself, I don''t have to exercise a lot of willpower I just make the right choices.

  • It''s mind over matter in this case. If you don''t take initiative and stop this unhealthy diet then you will only reap the consequences as you have been. there must be some healthy food that you like and can tolerate. Instead of going out to get fast food, go to the grocery store and stock up on a bunch of snack food that will not be as detrimental to your health.

I know you say it''s hard and you lack motivation but nobody on here will give you any better advice. There is no magical way out of this. You need to control your impulses or it is going to get much worse for you. Obesity is a serious matter. You can cause a lot of health problems for yourself in the future, even possibly the near future. Please try your hardest to take control of your diet. Do not let those fattening foods ruin your life. You are too young to this overweight. Only you can fix it so get to work on a better diet and try going for a jog now and then.

Maybe you should seek help from a councilor who will motivate you.
  • Yeah that''s a food addiction alright. Start your day with Oatmeal, it''s slow digesting and will keep away cravings. Then fill yourself up the rest of the day on healthy foods and water. Don''t have junk around, and get your parents to take over your finances until you are back in control of yourself. Try to get out of the setting in which you normally eat, or change it a great deal, the brain soon learns to associate a bad habit with a particular setting, so once back in that setting it expects the bad habit. Start walking everyday, at a comfortable pace and distance. Keep it very enjoyable for the next few months you just want to establish the habit. Avoid all junk food, it''s addictive, so even a little is bad. You are still young, plenty of time to turn things around. It might take awhile but just continue to work at improving your health, it will give you a better, happier life!
  • What can anyone do if you wont stop, its like smoking you have to want to, think of how pretty you will be and all the lovely clothes you will be able to buy, stop buying take aways and eat lots of fruit and veg chicken and fish , jacket potatoes are very nice. over weight causes heart attacks and colon cancer, could you go to a diet clinic.?
  • Drink ALOT of water! Try to slowly wean yourself off of fastfood, and look for healthy recipes online and learn to cook, and who knows? maybe you can find some really yummy recipes ... Also, try to get outside to walk or excersizes any time you can! And I recommend you tell your parents about this problem, when trying to lose weight it is great to have support, and I''m sure your parents will be willing to help you with this addiction... But as I said DRINK WATER!

    Good luck!!

Why are all these young girlies asking for weight loss tips?

Like I dont get it? Okay so I was once one of you girls! In 2011 it got way out of hand and I developed Anorexia Nervosa. I was on the verge of dying. Like I see y''alls post and I am just like I was once like them...The thing is that this disease SUCKS! I mean I lost all my friends, health, joy, family...need I go on? Like why is society so messed up? Yall need to be GROWING WITH FAT! FAT MAKES YOU GROW! (I stunted my growth and everything) YOU NEED TO EAT FATS- THEY HELP YOUR BRAIN WORK, YOU NEED TO EAT CARBS- THEY GIVE YOU ENERGY, YOU NEED TO EAT VEG AND FRUIT-THEY GIVE YOU VITAMINS AND MINERALS! YOU NEED TO EAT SOME TYPE OF PROTEIN! YOU NEED TO HAVE SOME "UNHEALTHY FOODS"- ITS GOOD FOR YOUR SOUL!!
No FOOD is bad! It is all good, just in moderation. Listen to your hunger cues. Eat when you are hungry, stop when you are full. LIKE COME ON! I do know its hard so I am sorta a hypocrit but CANT WE ALL LEARN TO LOVE OUR BODIES????
I am talking about the girls who are already thin. Why is our society so messed up with that? Like I dont get it...How can we change this? Like I find it discuting when people tell like 14 year olds these like weird detox diets to someone who is GROWING! Like come on that 90 pound girl does NOT need to lose weight. I am not talking about a 30000 lbs girl...

How to Burn Fat Without Losing Weight

You answered your own question. Girls are feeling the way you did when you were a girl this age. Its because of society. You cant be the one saying " why are girls doing this" when it happened to you. Same reason it happened to you is the same for girls now.

  • I personally am not looking for weight loss. I personally want to look the fat around my tummy and turn it into muscle. It is not healthy to have high amounts of fat. There are two different types of fat. Fat as in huge over weight. And fat as in you have a higher fat percent then muscle. This is unhealthy. If you have this you need to do more cardio. There is a reason teens are recommended to exercise at least an hour everyday. And why we need to eat right. And yes there is aerating foods you should try to avoid and only eat few of. Big Macs are one of them. Along with very salty fries because there is a certain amount of sodium intake a person should have per day. There wise it can cause HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE! Please do your research before you think loosing eight is bad. You could have just insulted a 14 year old girl that weights 300?pounds and is on the verge of killing herself because she wants to loose weight and has no one to turn to. You never know.
  • It''s too hard to believe you have anorexia. If you had it, you would know it is a mental illness, not something you can catch like a cold. You sound more like a fat person trying to convince other people to just accept their high weight. If you had anorexia you would know it is an "irrational" fear of gaining weight, & nothing you just said suggests you understand that. What next, you going to tell a Schizophrenic to think clearly & have normal emotional responses? Good Luck with that.

Anyway, you have a point with an estimated 0.5% of women suffering from anorexia nervosa in their lifetime. While more than 35% of women suffer from obesity & more than 90% suffer from being overweight in their lifetime. See what you can do to get more people to eat, because that is clearly where the biggest problem lies.

Quick Weight Loss - How to Lose Weight Quickly

Because you alredy do exercises you should take a look at your diet, maybe it is diet related. What do you usualy eat? Do you eat high calorie foods? Do you eat a lot of ready made dressings, sauces or fatty products? If not do you know what your calorie intake is? I would consider changing your diet into a healthier and more balanced diet, avoid red meats such as cow and pork, eat a lot of vegetables (cooked lightly so they can preserve their vitamins) and boiled rice. Also eat fish and chicken /turkey because even when they have calories they are easily burned and you will not be constantly craving for other foods =) Also cut out the sweets and fried stuff! http://myhealthdiaryhowtoloseweight.blogspot.pt/
