As you know, psychiatrists normally prescribe medication and don't often give much therapy. There are also many online search tools that identify health professionals in your area. Make a list of five our six and start calling. First you'll need to find out if they're accepting new patients. Then you'll need to find out if they accept your insurance (unless you're self-pay), finally you'll need to find out if they're going to be available to talk with you (rather than just prescribing medication). If you find anyone who meets this criteria- make an initial appointment. After that first appointment you'll both know if this could be a good working relationship- and you'll set up a follow up appointment. You might want to consider finding a therapist (psychologist or social worker) to talk with, and then go to your regular doctor for help with weight loss. How to choose a psychiatrists?

I am going through a mid-life crisis and I want to talk with someone, I have talked to many psychologists in the past and I feel their skills are weak, and I may need Adipex help with my weight loss. A couple a things though- 1) I know most psychiatrists do not counsel. Most just diagnose and give pills 2) I don't want to schedule an appointment with a psy. at the VA hospital or at the mental health center So how do I go about this right
