Do more enzymes help you loose weight or gain more?

We started talking about biochemistry today in school and learned about how enzymes work as a catalyst to biochemical reactions that have to do with metabolizing. So do enzymes have anything to do with burning sugars and other compounds that have to do with gaining weight?

I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but "burning sugars" will cause you to lose weight. When you intake sugar, your body converts it to glycogen and uses it for fuel. The general rule is that sugar is burned first, then fat, then proteins. Enzymes have many various functions in the body and there are many different types of enzymes (from enzymes that drive reactions as catalysts to ones that breaks down food - think amylase, lipase, etc.). Our bodies produces the enzymes you would need to function, and to do this, requires a healthy diet. You cannot simply "digest more enzymes" (or at least I've never heard of this).Enzymes function when it is necessary, by having a surplus of enzymes will not necessary make you gain or lose more weight.

Other Answers:

  • Enzymes are just the catalyst to the reaction. If you have the sugars and carbs in your system, the enzymes are gonna work on them, period. Adding enzymes somehow into your system isn't gonna burn any more of them, and I don't know if there's a way to block that metabolizing process via enzymes. Likely you wouldn't want to do that, as you wouldn't be able to "spot block" reactions, it would be an all or nothing thing.
