My cat has a sagging stomach, it this normal?

My cat Patches just turned 2 a couple of days ago and was fixed about 5 months ago. She's a bit chubby but not overweight really(maybe somewhere between 9 and 11 pounds). Like a week ago I noticed she has a loose, saggy belly that hangs down when she stands. I'm not sure how long it's been there b/c like I said I just noticed it. If I touch it she doesn't seem to be in any pain and she's still acting like herself but it still worries me b/c my last cat that had this problem had stomach cancer and had to be put down. I am going to the vet on Thursday but in the meantime I'm worrying myself sick b/c I don't think I can deal with losing another pet(I've lost 3 over the past 3 yrs; 2 to stomach cancer and one to an aneurysm) if it's something serious. I'm honestly considering going to an animal hospital or something. Can someone please tell me what this could possibly be and/or if it's normal?

How to Lose Weight with Chinese Herbs

HA! HA! I have 10 with the same physique! It is called a fat pad! Cats tend to hold the fat there! Not to worry! Inside companion cats (as they should be kept) tend to have this! It is like a humans "Love Handles". As kittens have the long, thin, gangly stage they go through, adults finally even out and have the fat pad. If it hangs to their feet, then you have an obese kitty! If it is just a small bit, it is normal. I feel it is a reserve in case they get sick! Enjoy your kitty and when you go for your yearly check - ups and vaccinations, your vet will keep you informed if there is an issue! Thank-You for being concerned! It shows you are compassionate and love your BFF !!!

  • I know what your're talking about. I don't really know that there's even a proper name for it -- maybe a fat pouch? There's nothing wrong; 99% of all cats have one. They just have a "flabby" tummy. Sometimes, it kind of sways when they trot or run. Some people call it a "spay sway" (regardless of cat's gender). That doesn't happen to all cats, but it is pretty common.
  • Normal. It's called a doolap. 2 of my cats have it. This talks about it briefly. http://www.catinfo.org/?link=felineobesityScroll down a little.

My Chinese mantises are 9 days old. When can I expect the first molt?

My ooth of Chinese mantids hatched on July 9th (they're 9 days old). I've release all but 3 of them. When can I expect the first molt? Also, it is okay that they are on a diet only consisting of flightless fruit flies? I don't want them to be malnourished. It's somewhat difficult to find clear answers on Google...They're pretty small and I am having trouble finding anything in the wild that seems appropriately sized for feeding.

A mantis will stop eating a day or 2 (sometimes more) prior to its molt. Do not be alarmed if one day your mantis is chowing down on a cricket and the next it refuses its food, it's simply getting ready to shed its skin. Mantids molt every 2-3 weeks as babies and the time in between each molt increases as they get older so their last molt into adulthood can sometimes take as long as 3-4 weeks. It takes about 7 molts for females and about 6 for males. That's why males tend to mature earlier than females and they also die faster. During molts, it is vital that you do not disturb them. The mantis will hang upside down from a branch or the screen lid and will sometimes shake or spasm violently. Then after a while, it worms out of its old skin and will hang out to dry. Once it's dried, it will resume eating and being its normal self after a couple days. To ensure their safety, mist them every day while young nymphs to prevent any blockade during molting. The Chinese Mantis should be kept in a terrarium roughly 3x its body size. The Chinese Mantis is an aggressive carnivore that will tackle and eat large insects. The Chinese Mantis' diet consists primarily of cockroaches, moths, butterflies, grasshoppers, crickets and spiders. At the first instar, Chinese Mantids will eat Drosophila melanogaster and similar small flies. As they grow larger, Mantids will accept House Flies, Blue Bottle Flies and small roaches.Mantids drink dew from leaves, so a gentle misting every other day is required. In the terrarium, Mantids require sticks and other foliage for climbing and molting. Mantids will thrive in temperatures ranging from 20 to 38°C. Sudden temperature changes may be fatal.
